Drop Head puts a player's own head into their death drops. It ships as loader jars for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, plus a loader-free datapack for worlds that skip mods entirely.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.13 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.14 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
How it works
Drop Head rewrites the entities/player.json loot table so every player death adds that player's head to the drops, correlating the head's characteristics with the player who died. The loot table edit is the entire mechanic, and it applies the same way whether the effect comes from a loader jar or the datapack.
Installation
- 1.Pick the loader jar for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt, following the loader's own setup such as installing Fabric or Forge and NeoForge, or grab the plain datapack if the world runs no loader at all.
- 2.Place the loader jar in the mods folder alongside any other mods for that loader and matching Minecraft release, following the general steps in installing Minecraft mods.
- 3.The newest release needs nothing else installed; some older releases could optionally add Stackable Heads.
Extras and compatibility
Two companions are named alongside Drop Head: Killer Head, and Stackable Heads, which some older builds list as an optional addition. Neither is required for the core effect, and the compatibility note simply claims it should work anywhere, which lines up with the loot-table-only approach and its lack of dependencies on the newest release across every loader.
Questions about Drop Head.
5 questions
Does Drop Head work with Fabric or Forge specifically?
Yes, separate loader jars cover Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the newest release for each needs nothing else installed. Pick the jar that matches the loader and Minecraft release running on the world in question.
Is there a way to use Drop Head without a mod loader?
Yes, a plain datapack ships alongside the loader jars and adds the same loot table edit without any loader at all, so it works on worlds that just enable datapacks rather than running Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt.
Does Drop Head need to run on the server?
Yes, the effect edits the player death loot table, which only takes effect where the server applies it. The client side stays optional, so the mod's death-drop behavior functions the same whether or not clients install it.
Can Drop Head be used together with Stackable Heads?
Yes, the two are named as companions, and some older builds list Stackable Heads as an optional addition. It isn't required for Drop Head's core loot table effect to function, which works the same with or without it.
Did the plugin releases for Bukkit and Paper stop updating?
Yes, those plugin releases stopped at 2.0.0 in September 2024. Only the Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt loader jars and the plain datapack keep receiving updates for newer Minecraft releases going forward.
