What Entity View Distance works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, Quilt |
| Minecraft versions | 1.17.1, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.4, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
Entity View Distance is an entity view distance mod for Fabric and Quilt, written by Patbox. It sets how far away entities stay visible, and it runs on the client, the server, or both. Neither side requires it, so vanilla clients can still join a server that has it installed.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.17.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Quilt: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
You can shorten the distance at which item frames, armor stands and any other entity appear, including entities added by other mods. Builds with dozens of decorative frames or stands are the obvious use case, since far-off clutter simply stops being drawn.
Settings and commands
The options live in two places. In the client, open Video Settings and choose Entity Distance Settings. On a server, or anywhere you prefer typing, use the /entityviewdistance command.
Installing it
- 1.Install the Fabric or Quilt loader for your Minecraft release. The guide on installing Fabric covers the steps.
- 2.Drop the mod file into the mods folder. The general routine is in how to install Java mods.
- 3.Add Fabric API as well. The mod's description pairs it with Fabric API or a compatible replacement, even though the newest release lists no required dependencies.
- 4.Launch the loader profile, then open Video Settings to adjust distances.
Questions about Entity View Distance.
4 questions
Does Entity View Distance need to be installed on both client and server?
No. It works on the client and on the server, but neither side requires it. A vanilla client can still connect to a server running the mod, and a client with the mod can join a vanilla server. Install it on whichever side you want to control.
How do I change entity view distance with this mod?
Open Video Settings and select Entity Distance Settings to adjust how far away entities stay visible. The same options are available through the /entityviewdistance command, which is the route to use when you manage a server. The mod works on the client, the server, or both.
Does Entity View Distance work on Forge or NeoForge?
No. The mod is built for Fabric and Quilt only. Its description states it works on the Fabric loader with Fabric API or a compatible alternative, and no Forge or NeoForge files are listed.
Can it limit modded entities as well as vanilla ones?
Yes. The mod is meant to limit the render distance of item frames, armor stands and any other entity, including modded ones. You adjust it in Video Settings under Entity Distance Settings, or with the /entityviewdistance command, on the client, the server, or both.
