First-person Model is a client-side Minecraft Java mod by tr7zw that renders your full player body, including arms, torso, and legs, while you play in first-person view. The result mirrors how Bedrock Edition shows the player, giving each session a more grounded, immersive feel without changing hitboxes, combat, or any server-side behavior. It runs on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge and requires Not Enough Animations as a companion.

What First-person Model changes in-game

Vanilla Minecraft Java Edition shows only the held item and a floating pair of arms. First-person Model replaces the camera anchor with your full player character so the body moves, sways, and reacts the same way it does in third-person. You can see your equipped armor, legs while walking or sprinting, and the item-use animations added by Not Enough Animations. The mod does not alter hitboxes, server packets, or save data.

How to install First-person Model

Download the build for your loader from Modrinth and place the .jar in your mods folder. Two mods must be present in the same folder:

  • Not Enough Animations - handles the extended animation set that First-person Model relies on to render the body correctly.
  • Fabric API (Fabric installs only) - required Fabric library mod.

On Forge and NeoForge, Fabric API is not needed. Install First-person Model and Not Enough Animations in their respective Forge or NeoForge builds. For an in-game configuration screen, add Mod Menu (Fabric) or use the built-in mod config UI in Forge and NeoForge.

Loader and version compatibility

  • Fabric - primary loader with full feature support.
  • Forge - supported via the dedicated Forge build on Modrinth.
  • NeoForge - supported via the NeoForge build on Modrinth.
  • Minecraft versions: 1.16.5 through the current quarterly release.
  • Side: client-only. No server installation required or recommended.

Compatibility with shaders and other visual mods

First-person Model works alongside most Iris-based and OptiFine-compatible shaders. Pair it with 3D Skin Layers to add three-dimensional detail to the rendered skin, or with Entity Model Features for additional custom model support on Fabric. Some shaders with non-standard hand-rendering passes may show minor visual artifacts on the visible body; check the mod's GitHub issue tracker for known shader conflicts.
