The LibZ mod is a Fabric library for Java that carries shared code for a few mods by Globox1997. Its main feature is a tab registry for visible screen tabs. It must be present on both sides, so players and hosts of multiplayer worlds both need it.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.19.2 to 1.21.1. The newest build requires Cloth Config API and Fabric API.
What LibZ does
On its own, LibZ adds nothing you can play with. Globox1997 describes it as a library he never planned to publish, but after enough time modding, sharing the code made sense. Other mods call into it, so you install it only when a mod asks for it.
The tab system draws tabs on top of a screen, in the style of the creative inventory tabs. Clicking a tab opens another screen. All tab code runs on the player's side and is registered in a ClientModInitializer.
Installation
- 1.Set up Fabric for your Minecraft release by following how to install Fabric.
- 2.Put the LibZ file and the two libraries it needs into the mods folder.
- 3.Launch the Fabric profile and check that the mod that depends on LibZ loads.
The general mod installation guide covers the folder location. Other dependencies ship inside LibZ, so only the two libraries need separate files.
For mod developers
Add the Modrinth maven to your build.gradle, then declare LibZ with modApi and exclude the net.fabricmc.fabric-api group. Set libz_version in gradle.properties to a release listed on Modrinth.
To create a tab, extend InventoryTab and override onClick to open your screen. The constructor takes a title, a texture identifier, a position number and the target screen class. Opening a handled screen usually means sending your own packet to the host.
Report bugs on the GitHub issue tracker. The creator also keeps a wiki page for the library.
Questions about LibZ.
4 questions
What is LibZ used for?
LibZ is a library for a few mods by Globox1997. It gives them shared code, chiefly a registry for tabs drawn on top of screens. It does not add blocks, items or mechanics by itself, so you install it only to satisfy another mod.
Does LibZ work on Forge?
No. LibZ is developed for Fabric, and the creator states there are no plans for a Forge release. Use it with the Fabric loader and mods made for Fabric.
Does LibZ need to be installed on multiplayer hosts?
Yes. Both the player's side and the host's side are required, so install the same mod on both. Tab code runs on the player's side, but the mod is still needed on the host.
Can I include LibZ in a modpack?
Yes. The creator's page says it can be used in any modpack, and the code is under the MIT License. Remember to include the two libraries it requires.
