Litematica is a client-side schematic mod for Minecraft Java Edition by masa. It loads a saved build as a semi-transparent ghost overlay directly in your game world, letting you place blocks inside the outline to recreate structures block by block. A built-in verifier scans the loaded area and highlights every mismatch between your placed blocks and the schematic, making it practical to check large builds or catch placement errors early. The mod supports Fabric and Forge across Minecraft versions from 1.12 to 1.21 and requires the MaLiLib library.
How to Install Litematica
Litematica requires both Litematica and MaLiLib. Download both from Modrinth for the same Minecraft version and loader, then drop both .jar files in your mods folder.
- 1.Install Fabric Loader or Forge for your Minecraft version.
- 2.Download MaLiLib from Modrinth for the same version and loader.
- 3.Download Litematica from Modrinth for the same version and loader.
- 4.Place both .jar files in your .minecraft/mods folder.
- 5.Launch Minecraft. Press M in-world to open the Litematica main menu.
Saving, Loading, and Placing Schematics
To save an existing structure, select a region with Litematica's area selection tool and export it as a .litematic file. To use an external schematic, place the file in your .minecraft/schematics folder and open it through the Litematica menu. Once loaded, the schematic appears in-world as a ghost overlay. You can reposition, rotate, or mirror the overlay before building into it. Litematica reads .litematic (native format), .schematic (MCEdit), and .nbt (vanilla structure files).
- The material list screen tallies every block type in the schematic so you can gather materials before starting.
- A compact material list HUD can be pinned to the corner of the screen while you build, updating in real time.
- Placement modes let you switch between a full transparent overlay, block outlines only, or a simple box.
- Multiple schematics can be loaded simultaneously and toggled individually.
Schematic Verifier and Material List
The schematic verifier scans the blocks in your world against the loaded schematic and sorts mismatches into categories: wrong block type, wrong block state, or missing block. Each error is highlighted in-world with a color-coded outline so you can spot and fix it without consulting a list of coordinates. Run the verifier periodically to catch placement mistakes before they cascade into structural errors across a large build.

Questions about this entry.
How do I install Litematica?
Download Litematica and MaLiLib from Modrinth for your Minecraft version and loader. Place both .jar files in your mods folder alongside Fabric Loader or Forge, then launch the game. Open the Litematica menu in-world by pressing M. Both files must match the same version.
Does Litematica work with Forge?
Yes. Litematica has builds for Fabric and Forge. Download the correct file for your loader from Modrinth. MaLiLib, a required dependency, also has separate Fabric and Forge builds, so make sure both files match your loader.
Does Litematica work on multiplayer servers?
Litematica is a client-side mod. The server does not need it installed. The in-world overlay and verifier work in multiplayer as you build, but placing and breaking blocks still follows the server's rules and permissions.
Which Minecraft version does Litematica support?
Litematica has releases from Minecraft 1.12 through current 1.21.x builds. Check Modrinth for the latest file matching your version. The most actively updated builds target recent 1.21.x releases on Fabric.
What is MaLiLib and do I need it?
MaLiLib is a shared utility library by masa that Litematica requires. Download MaLiLib from Modrinth for the same Minecraft version and loader, place it in your mods folder alongside Litematica, and the mod will work. Without it, Litematica will not launch.
