Lootr is a Minecraft Java mod for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge that makes every loot container in the world personal. When you open a chest in a dungeon, mineshaft, or shipwreck, Lootr gives you your own private loot roll, independent of every other player on the server. Your friend can open the same chest and receive completely different items. The chest remembers whether you have already opened it and shows a visual indicator so you know at a glance what you still need to loot.
How Lootr Works
Vanilla Minecraft loot chests award items to the first player who opens them. Once that player takes the loot, later arrivals find an empty chest. Lootr changes this: the loot table is evaluated separately for each player, so the chest is never already looted from your perspective. Chests appear visually distinct when unopened versus opened, letting you track which structures you still need to visit. The mod replaces standard shared loot table behavior with per-player instancing without changing loot table contents.
- Works with every vanilla loot container: dungeon chests, mineshaft chests, buried treasure, stronghold library chests, end city chests, and shulker boxes.
- Visual state indicator shows whether you personally have opened a container.
- Loot is rolled fresh per player from the same loot table the vanilla game uses.
- Compatible with structure worldgen mods that use standard loot table IDs.
How to Install Lootr
Lootr requires installation on both client and server. It does not function as a client-only or server-only mod.
- 1.Install Fabric Loader, Forge, or NeoForge for a supported Minecraft version.
- 2.For Fabric: download Fabric API and Cloth Config API and place them in your mods folder alongside Lootr.
- 3.For Forge or NeoForge: download Cloth Config API and add it to your mods folder.
- 4.Place the Lootr .jar in your mods folder.
- 5.On a server: repeat the same steps on the server side. All connecting players must also have Lootr installed.
Compatibility
Lootr converts any chest that uses a standard Minecraft loot table ID. Structure mods that follow vanilla conventions, including terrain and dungeon generators like When Dungeons Arise and YUNG's series, are automatically supported. Structures that pre-fill chests without loot table references are not affected.
- Loaders: Fabric (requires Fabric API and Cloth Config), Forge (requires Cloth Config), NeoForge (requires Cloth Config).
- Minecraft versions: 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.1, 1.21.1.
- Side: required on both client and server.
- Works with structure worldgen mods that use standard loot table IDs.
- Not compatible with vanilla servers; all connected clients must have Lootr installed.

Questions about this entry.
How do I install Lootr?
Download Lootr from Modrinth and place the .jar in your mods folder. On Fabric you also need Fabric API and Cloth Config API. On Forge or NeoForge you need Cloth Config. Install on both the client and the server, then launch Minecraft with the appropriate loader.
Does Lootr work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, and multiplayer is its primary use case. Every player on the server gets their own loot roll from shared containers. All players must have Lootr installed, and the server must also run it.
Do other players see my chest as opened or closed?
Each player's opened state is tracked independently. If you have opened a Lootr chest, it appears opened to you. A player who has not yet looted the same chest will still see it as unopened on their client.
Which Minecraft versions does Lootr support?
Lootr has builds for Minecraft 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.1, and 1.21.1 across Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. Check the Modrinth project page for the full version list and the latest release.
Does Lootr work with shulker boxes and barrels?
Yes. Lootr applies to all vanilla loot containers that reference a loot table, including shulker boxes placed by structures. Player-crafted and player-placed containers are not affected.
