Mekanism Generators is the power-generation module of Mekanism, the Java Edition tech mod already covered on this site. It adds solar, wind, heat, gas-burning, bio, and nuclear generators, so machines built with the base mod have somewhere to draw power from. The mod requires Mekanism installed first and runs on Forge or NeoForge, client and server both.
What Mekanism Generators adds
Mekanism Generators supplies every generator in the Mekanism power lineup, from small early-game options to reactor-scale output. Early power comes from the Heat Generator, which burns lava or other heat sources, and the Solar and Advanced Solar Generators, which need no fuel input at all. The Wind Generator scales with a build's height and produces without consuming anything. Mid-game options burn gas: the Gas-Burning Generator runs on hydrogen or other combustible gases, and the Bio-Generator runs on bioethanol pressed from organic items. At the top end, the Industrial Turbine converts steam into power, and the Fission Reactor and Fusion Reactor scale into the mod's highest energy tiers, with the fusion reactor needing deuterium-tritium fuel and heavy multiblock construction.
- Heat Generator: burns lava or other heat sources, useful as an early power source
- Solar Generator and Advanced Solar Generator: draw power from sunlight, no fuel input
- Wind Generator: scales output with build height, no fuel input
- Gas-Burning Generator: burns hydrogen or other combustible gases
- Bio-Generator: runs on bioethanol pressed from organic items
- Industrial Turbine: converts steam into power for larger builds
- Fission Reactor: nuclear fission power that needs fissile fuel and active cooling
- Fusion Reactor: endgame deuterium-tritium fusion power at multiblock scale
Installing Mekanism Generators
Mekanism Generators adds no standalone content. Install Mekanism first, since every generator in this addon feeds power into Mekanism's own energy network and machines. Once the base mod is in place, add Mekanism Generators to the same mods folder on Forge or NeoForge.
- 1.Install Mekanism on both the client and the server
- 2.Download Mekanism Generators for the matching loader from Modrinth
- 3.Place both jar files in the mods folder on client and server
- 4.Launch with Forge or NeoForge, matching the Minecraft version used by both mods
Loader and Minecraft version support
Mekanism Generators ships for Forge and NeoForge only; there is no Fabric or Quilt build. NeoForge is the current branch: the newest release, 10.7.19.85, targets Minecraft 1.21.1 and shipped in April 2026. Forge trails behind at 1.20.1 on release 10.4.16.80 from May 2025, with no newer Forge build since, so Forge players are capped well below the current NeoForge version.

Questions about Mekanism Generators.
5 questions
What does Mekanism Generators do?
Mekanism Generators is the power-generation addon for Mekanism, adding the Heat, Solar, Wind, Gas-Burning, and Bio-Generators along with the Industrial Turbine and the Fission and Fusion Reactors. It supplies the energy that runs Mekanism's machines, cables, and factories, since the base mod ships no generators of its own.
Is Mekanism Generators required to power Mekanism machines?
Yes, unless another power mod is installed. The base Mekanism mod adds machines and an energy network but no way to generate power. Mekanism Generators fills that gap, so a Mekanism setup with no other power source needs this addon to run.
Does Mekanism Generators work with Fabric?
No. Mekanism Generators only ships for Forge and NeoForge, matching the loaders the base Mekanism mod supports. There is no Fabric or Quilt build for either mod.
Which Minecraft version does Mekanism Generators support?
NeoForge is the actively maintained branch, currently at Minecraft 1.21.1. Forge's most recent release targets 1.20.1 and has not been updated since May 2025, so Forge players are capped below the current NeoForge build.
Does Mekanism Generators work on multiplayer servers?
Yes. Mekanism Generators is required on both the client and the server, same as the base Mekanism mod. Generators, energy storage, and power transfer all function normally in multiplayer once both mods are installed on each side.
