Immersive Engineering is a Minecraft Java technology mod for Forge and NeoForge that builds power networks around wires, transformers, capacitors, and large multiblock machines. It runs on both client and server, making it a fit for technical survival worlds where the factory itself should be part of the build.

What Immersive Engineering changes

The mod takes a retro-futuristic approach to automation. Power moves through cables stretched between connectors instead of a flat lane of machine blocks. Waterwheels, windmills, biodiesel, and other generators feed that network, while machines such as the Crusher process materials with visible moving parts. The Excavator is a much larger multiblock that digs ores from the ground with a rotating bucketwheel, so its footprint and resource cost matter when planning a base.

It can stand alone through the Forge Energy API, but it also sits comfortably beside larger technology packs such as Create and Mekanism. The visual language is the main distinction. This is industrial infrastructure with hanging lines, steel frames, and machines that look like machines, not a set of invisible upgrades.

Loader and version limits

  • Forge reaches 1.20.1 with release build 10.2.0-183 from 2025-02-18.
  • NeoForge reaches 1.21.1 with release build 12.4.2-194 from 2025-07-05.
  • The project feed also lists 1.12.2, 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.19.3, 1.19.4, and 1.20.4.
  • No required or optional dependencies appear in the Modrinth project facts.

Client and server installation

Install the matching Forge or NeoForge profile, then place the Immersive Engineering file from the linked Modrinth project in the client mods folder. For multiplayer, install the same compatible mod version on the server and every connecting client. Both sides are required, so a client-only install is not enough for a shared world.

The project is source-linked and external-download only. Its newest releases are older than the current Minecraft release cycle, so confirm the exact file version before starting a new world or adding the mod to a pack.

Questions about Immersive Engineering.

4 questions

What does Immersive Engineering do?

Immersive Engineering adds retro-futuristic technology to Minecraft Java through cable networks, generators, capacitors, transformers, and multiblock machines. Its Crusher processes materials with visible moving parts, while the Excavator creates a large resource-intensive mining structure. The mod focuses on physical factory layouts instead of compact blocks that hide every part of the system.

Does Immersive Engineering work with Forge or NeoForge?

Yes. Forge builds reach Minecraft 1.20.1, while NeoForge builds reach 1.21.1. The project does not provide Fabric or Quilt builds. Choose the loader first, then select a file whose Minecraft version matches that loader.

Does Immersive Engineering work on multiplayer servers?

Yes, but install it on both the client and the server. The Modrinth side metadata marks both environments as required, so a client-only installation will not provide the complete multiplayer setup. Every player should use the same compatible loader, Minecraft version, and Immersive Engineering build as the server.

Where can I download Immersive Engineering?

Use the Immersive Engineering project page on Modrinth and choose the file that matches your Forge or NeoForge loader and Minecraft version. MinecraftHub links to that source and does not host or mirror the compiled mod because the project license forbids redistribution without explicit permission.
