MiniPlaceholders is a MiniMessage component-based placeholders API for Minecraft, shipped as a mod for Fabric and Quilt. It is an API layer rather than a gameplay feature, so it matters when something else asks for it.

The same project also ships plugin builds for Paper, Folia, Purpur, Sponge and Velocity. That makes it a shared layer for placeholders across mod and plugin platforms, not a single-loader tool.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.19.3 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.19.4 require Fabric API.
  • Quilt: Minecraft 1.19.3 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it does

An expansion is a named group of placeholders. Each one returns a MiniMessage tag, so the result is a real text component and not a flat string. The API supports two kinds.

  • Audience placeholders resolve against a specific target, such as a player's name.
  • Global placeholders resolve without a target, such as the current TPS.

Developers write expansions in Java or Kotlin, and Javadocs plus a developer wiki cover the API.

Installing it

  1. 1.Install Fabric or Quilt for your Minecraft release. The Fabric installation guide covers the loader step.
  2. 2.Pick the file that matches your loader and Minecraft release from the Modrinth page.
  3. 3.Place it in the mods folder, following the mod installation guide, then launch with the loader profile.

Trade-offs

Source code and the issue tracker are on GitHub, which is where to report a problem on a specific platform.

Questions about MiniPlaceholders.

4 questions

What is MiniPlaceholders used for?

MiniPlaceholders is a placeholders API built around MiniMessage components. Mods and plugins register expansions, such as a player name or TPS value, and each one returns a MiniMessage tag. It exists to give different platforms one shared way to resolve placeholders.

Does MiniPlaceholders work on Paper or Velocity?

Yes. The project ships plugin builds for Paper, Folia, Purpur, Sponge and Velocity alongside the Fabric and Quilt mods. Each platform has its own file, so choose the one that matches where you run it instead of using the mod file everywhere.

Does MiniPlaceholders need Fabric API?

The newest Fabric and Quilt files list no required dependencies, so Fabric API is not needed for the current release. Older files can differ, so check the dependency list on the Modrinth page for the exact file you download before you launch.

Is MiniPlaceholders open source?

Yes. The source is public on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0. You can read the code, follow the issue tracker, and check the Javadocs and developer wiki if you want to write your own expansion.
