The NiftyCarts mod adds horse-drawn carts to Minecraft Java Edition on Fabric. It is a port of AstikorCarts that covers travel, shipping and farming with six cart types. Both sides need it installed, so every player and the host must run it.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires Fabric API and Forge Config API Port.
The six carts
- Supply cart: a double chest of storage and one seat in the back.
- Hand cart: a smaller supply cart with 27 slots, pulled only by players.
- Plow: holds three tools (hoes, shovels, axes) and uses them on the block beneath it, tilling soil, making paths and stripping logs.
- Animal cart: two seats, for players or mobs.
- Seed drill: nine seed slots, plants on farmland as it is pulled.
- Reaper: harvests crops while a player sits on it to operate it.
Hitching and driving
Nearby carts attach to and detach from the entity you are riding with the Action Key hotkey, bound to R by default. Pressing Sprint once toggles Slow Mode, which makes both your mount and the cart slower.
Installation
Set up the loader with the Fabric installation guide, then follow the mod installation guide to place the mod file and its required libraries in the mods folder. Everyone who joins needs the same setup, because the mod is required on both sides.

Does NiftyCarts work on Forge?
No. NiftyCarts is a Fabric port and ships only Fabric files. The Forge line is the original AstikorCarts, which covers Forge 1.12.2, 1.16.4/5, 1.18.2 and 1.19.2, and AstikorCarts Redux, which covers Forge 1.19.4 to 1.20.1.
Do I need NiftyCarts on the server as well as the client?
Yes. The mod is required on both sides, so the host and every player who joins must install it. Each machine needs the Fabric loader, the mod file and its required libraries in the mods folder, then a launch from the Fabric profile.
How do I attach a cart to a horse?
Stand near the cart while riding the animal and press the Action Key hotkey, which is R by default. Pressing it again detaches the cart. Pressing Sprint once toggles Slow Mode for both mount and cart.
What can the plow cart do?
