OpenBlocks Elevator ports the elevator block from OpenBlocks to modern Minecraft Java. It runs on Fabric and NeoForge, and it belongs on both the client and the server. Older Forge builds exist, but they have stopped.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API; some builds for 1.21 to 26.1.2 need no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.12.2 to 1.20.4, builds stopped after May 2025. The newest build needs no dependencies.

How the elevators work

Place two or more elevators on the same X and Z coordinates. Jump to travel to the elevator above, or sneak to drop to the one below. Each elevator needs at least one block of air, or a non-solid block, above it to count as valid. The crafting recipe matches the original OpenBlocks one, and any elevator can be re-dyed.

  • Directional option. Right-click an elevator with an empty hand to open the options window. With Directional ticked, arriving players are turned to the chosen facing. An arrow on the block shows the direction, and Hide arrow removes it. It changes only where the player looks, not how they move.
  • Camouflage. Right-click an elevator while holding a solid block to disguise it. Most blocks work, but a chest does not, because it renders differently.
  • Colour matching. An optional rule lets elevators teleport only between blocks of the same colour.

Configuration

The settings file is per world, at `<world-directory>/serverconfig/elevatorid-server.toml`. The defaults are sensible for survival play, and the range is the main value to change.

  • range: 384 blocks by default, adjustable from 3 to 4064.
  • useXP: off by default. When on, XPPointsAmount sets the cost in experience points, not levels.
  • sameColor: off by default.
  • mobSpawn: off, so mobs do not spawn on elevators.
  • precisionTarget: on, which recentres players on the target elevator.

Installation

  1. 1.Install Fabric or NeoForge for your Minecraft version, following the Java mod install guide.
  2. 2.Put the mod file in the mods folder of the game directory. Fabric players add Fabric API where the loader list says it is needed.
  3. 3.For multiplayer, install the same mod on the server and on each client.

Questions about OpenBlocks Elevator.

4 questions

How do I use the OpenBlocks Elevator?

Place two or more elevators at the same X and Z coordinates, with at least one free block of air above each. Stand on one and jump to move to the elevator above, or sneak to move to the one below. Right-click with an empty hand to open the options.

Why is my OpenBlocks Elevator not working?

The usual causes are elevators that are not aligned on the same X and Z, a solid block directly above, a distance beyond the configured range (384 by default), or the same-colour rule being switched on. If XP cost is enabled, the player also needs enough experience points.

Does OpenBlocks Elevator work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. The files are tagged for both client and server, so install the mod on the server and on every player's client. The settings file lives inside the world folder, so the server controls range and XP cost.

Can I disguise an elevator as another block?

Yes. Right-click the elevator while holding a solid block and it takes on that block's look. Most blocks work, though a chest does not because it renders differently.
