ServerCore is a server-side Fabric and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java that reduces random lagspikes and gives operators granular control over entity load. It works on dedicated servers and in singleplayer, and Modrinth marks the client side unsupported, so the jar belongs in the mods folder on the machine running the world.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric builds run 1.17.1 through 26.3, with no dependency required for the current build.
- NeoForge builds run 1.20.2 through 26.3, also with no dependency required for the current build.
- Forge support stopped, with builds spanning 1.19.2 through 1.20.4; the newest of those, for 1.20.1, is dated 2024-11-22 and nothing has followed it.
Features
Most of the mod's patches target chunk ticking, mob spawning, item frames and player logins, and are meant to be invisible during play. Beyond that baseline, it ships opt-in systems: an Entity Activation Range port based on Spigot and PaperMC's implementation, dynamic performance checks that adjust view distance, simulation distance, chunk-tick distance and mobcaps in response to tick time, villager lobotomization for large trading halls, per-spawngroup mobcap tuning, and breeding caps to stop mass animal farms from tanking a tick rate.
Installation
Drop the matching Fabric or NeoForge jar into the mods folder on the server and start it with that loader's profile. Readers new to modding a server should check how to install Fabric or how to install Forge and NeoForge before picking a loader, and the general mod installation guide covers the mods folder itself.
Questions about ServerCore.
4 questions
Does ServerCore need a client-side install?
No. It runs entirely on the server, and Modrinth's own build data marks the client side unsupported. Players connecting to a server running it need nothing extra on their end.
Is ServerCore compatible with Forge?
Forge builds stopped after 2024-11-22, covering versions 1.19.2 through 1.20.4 across their history. Fabric and NeoForge are the loaders that keep receiving current builds through Minecraft 26.3.
Will ServerCore change how my world plays?
By default it should not; features that alter vanilla mob spawning, entity ticking or villager behavior ship turned off. You opt into gameplay changes by editing the config files yourself.
Does ServerCore require any other mods?
No. Every current Fabric and NeoForge build lists no dependency requirement, so the jar runs on its own once placed in the server's mods folder.
