Smooth Swapping is a client-side mod that animates item movement inside inventories, so stacks glide between slots instead of snapping into place. It ships for Fabric, NeoForge, Quilt and Forge. Only the player who wants the animation installs it, and servers are not supported.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.17.1 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API, optionally Mod Menu; some builds for 1.17.1 to 1.19 need no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Quilt: Minecraft 1.18 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API, optionally Mod Menu.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.18 to 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
The mod does not add items, blocks or mechanics. It is a visual polish layer for menus, which is why Modrinth files it under decoration.
It is written with Architectury but does not need the Architectury API on Fabric or Forge. That keeps the mods folder shorter than the toolkit behind it suggests.
The settings screen
On Fabric, Mod Menu is needed to open the settings screen. The screen is the mod's strongest feature, because you shape the motion yourself.
- A toggle switches the animation on or off.
- A slider sets the animation speed.
- A graph defines the animation curve. Right click an empty spot to add a point, left click and drag to move it, and right click a point to delete it.
- The first and last points of the curve cannot be moved.
- A small test inventory previews the result before you leave the screen.
Installing it
Pick the file that matches your loader and Minecraft release, drop it into the mods folder, and launch with that loader's profile. If you have not set up a loader yet, the guides for Fabric and Forge and NeoForge cover it. Check the list above for the dependencies each loader's build needs.

Questions about Smooth Swapping.
4 questions
Does Smooth Swapping work on multiplayer servers?
It is a client-side mod, so you install it only on your own game. Servers are not supported and do not need it. The animation is visual and only you see it, which means joining a server with it installed is a purely local change.
Do I need Architectury API for Smooth Swapping?
No. The mod is written using Architectury, but it does not need the Architectury API on either Fabric or Forge. The mod itself is a client-side tool that animates item movement inside inventories, and the loaders and versions list on this page shows what each build does need.
How do I change the animation speed in Smooth Swapping?
Open the mod's settings screen. On Fabric, that means installing Mod Menu first. A slider adjusts the speed, a graph reshapes the animation curve, and a small test inventory lets you test your animation. The toggle on the same screen switches the animation off.
Can I turn Smooth Swapping off without removing it?
Yes. The settings screen has a toggle button that activates or deactivates the mod. That lets you keep the file in your mods folder while returning inventories to instant item movement.
