What Spelunkery works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, NeoForge |
| Minecraft versions | 1.19.2, 1.20.1, 1.21.1 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
Spelunkery is a cave overhaul mod for Minecraft Java on Fabric and NeoForge. Forge builds also exist, but they have stopped. It reworks material progression, fills the underground with landmarks and ore variations, and hands miners new tools. It must be installed on both sides of a multiplayer connection.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.19.2 to 1.21.1. The newest build requires Fabric API and Moonlight Lib; some builds for 1.19.2 to 1.21.1 require Moonlight Lib; some builds for 1.21.1 need no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1. The newest build requires Moonlight Lib; some builds for 1.21.1 need no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.19.2 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after January 2025. The newest build requires Moonlight Lib; some builds for 1.20.1 need no dependencies.
What it changes
Vanilla mining repeats itself quickly. Spelunkery targets that with three stated goals.
- Tweaked material progression, so mining feels different from vanilla.
- New landmarks, points of interest and ore generation variations that make caves less alike.
- Novel, useful tools for mining and exploring.
Full feature details live on the project wiki. Ordana wrote the code and the idea, Axia contributed heavily to the code, and Cassian added further code work. Keyberries and Kayla the Bee made the textures.
Installation
- 1.Install Fabric or NeoForge for the same Minecraft release as the build you choose.
- 2.Download Spelunkery and every dependency listed for that build, including Moonlight Lib.
- 3.Place the downloaded files in the mods folder inside .minecraft.
- 4.Launch with the loader's profile, and repeat the same setup on the host running the world.
Compatibility and trade-offs
The mod has been extensively tested for compatibility with No Man's Land and Create. Because it changes progression and underground generation, expect mining to play differently from vanilla.
Questions about Spelunkery.
3 questions
Does Spelunkery work on multiplayer?
Yes, but it is required on both sides. Players need the mod installed, and so does the host running the world. Moonlight Lib is a required dependency for the newest Fabric and NeoForge builds, so add it alongside the mod on each side.
Does Spelunkery work with Forge?
Forge builds exist for older releases, but they stopped in January 2025 while Fabric and NeoForge kept going. For current play, pick the Fabric or NeoForge files. Each file only runs on the loader it was made for.
Is Spelunkery compatible with Create?
Yes. Spelunkery has been extensively tested for compatibility with No Man's Land and Create. Fabric builds for 1.19.2 list Create Fabric as optional, and Forge builds for 1.19.2 list Create as optional. Spelunkery's wiki holds the full feature details for the mod.
