Subtitle Mod is a Java mod for Fabric, NeoForge and Forge that adds a command for showing a subtitle with a transparent background to every player for a set time. It must be installed on both sides, on the host and on each player's side. The same project also ships plugin builds for Paper, Spigot, Purpur and Bukkit.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.2. The newest build requires CatoAPI and Fabric API; some builds for 1.20.1 to 26.1.2 require Cloth Config API, Common Network and Fabric API; some builds for 26.1 to 26.1.2 require Cloth Config API, Common Network, Fabric API and Architectury API; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.21.6 require Common Network; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.20.6 require Fabric API.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.2. The newest build requires CatoAPI; some builds for 1.21 to 26.1.2 require Cloth Config API and Common Network; some builds for 26.1 to 26.1.2 require Cloth Config API, Common Network and Architectury API; some builds for 1.21 to 1.21.7 require Common Network.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 1.21.8. The newest build requires CatoAPI; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.21.8 require Cloth Config API and Common Network; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.21.7 require Common Network; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.20.6 need no dependencies.

Sending subtitles

One command does the work. Run /subtitle with your message and the text appears for every player for a set time.

  • Use ; inside the message to split it into separate lines.
  • Use & for color-coding in the message.
  • Sending a new subtitle while one is showing replaces it. The message and the timer both change, so subtitles overlap instead of queuing.

Adjusting the look

Appearance is configurable on the player's side: padding, text scale, border spacing and background color.

Installation

  1. 1.Install the loader that matches the release you play, using the guide for Fabric or Forge and NeoForge.
  2. 2.Pick a Subtitle Mod release for your loader and world release from the list above, and collect every library it requires.
  3. 3.Put the mod file and each library file in the mods folder, on the host and on every player's side.
  4. 4.Start Java with the loader's profile and run /subtitle to test it.

Questions about Subtitle Mod.

4 questions

How do I show a subtitle to all players?

Run the /subtitle command with your message. Every player online sees the text with a transparent background for a set time. Put ; between parts of the message to start a new line, and use & before a color code to tint the text.

What happens if I send two subtitles at once?

They overlap rather than queue. A new subtitle sent while another is still showing replaces the current message and resets the timer. If you plan a sequence, wait for each subtitle to finish before sending the next one.

Can I change how the subtitles look?

Yes, on each player's own screen. The settings cover padding, text scale, border spacing and background color. These options change only how subtitles look to that player, not what the command sends.

Does Subtitle Mod work on multiplayer servers?

Subtitle Mod is required on both sides, so the host and every player need it installed. The project also ships plugin builds for Paper, Spigot, Purpur and Bukkit. Those builds list CatoAPI or CommandAPI as requirements, depending on the release.
