Torchmaster is a Java mod by Xalcon that adds a special torch which prevents mob spawning in a configurable radius. Blocks such as the Mega Torch and the Dread Lamp let you control spawning with a single placement. It runs on Fabric and NeoForge, Forge support has stopped, and it must be present on both sides of a multiplayer setup.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.21 to 1.21.10. The newest build requires Fabric API and oωo (owo-lib), optionally Mod Menu; some builds for 1.21.9 to 1.21.10 require oωo (owo-lib); some builds for 1.21 to 1.21.5 need no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 1.21.10. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after October 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it does

The idea comes from RWTema's Extra Utilities 1. The torch is meant to block only natural spawning caused by low light levels. Mob spawners keep working, because vanilla spawners get special handling and spawners from other mods should behave the same way.

  • Mega Torch and Dread Lamp blocks that suppress spawning in a set radius.
  • The radius is configurable.
  • Vanilla mob spawners are left alone.

How to install Torchmaster

  1. 1.Install Fabric or NeoForge for the game release you play, following our Fabric loader guide if you need it.
  2. 2.Pick the file that matches your loader and game release, plus the dependencies listed above for your build.
  3. 3.Put every .jar file in the mods folder inside .minecraft, then launch with the loader's profile.
  4. 4.Install the same mod on the host and on every player's side.

Questions about TorchMaster.

3 questions

Does Torchmaster block mob spawners?

The torch is meant to block only natural spawning caused by low light levels. Vanilla mob spawners get special handling so they keep working, and spawners from other mods should work as well. If one is blocked by the Mega Torch, Xalcon asks players to open a ticket on the GitHub repository.

Does Torchmaster still support Forge?

Forge releases stopped in October 2024 at 20.1.9, which covers 1.16.5 to 1.20.1. NeoForge continues through 1.21.10 and also covers 1.20.1, so it is the loader to choose for newer releases. Fabric support starts at 1.21.

Does Torchmaster need to be installed on both sides?

Yes. The mod is required on both the player's side and the host's side. A multiplayer host without it will not work with players who have it, so everyone should install the matching file for their loader and game release.
