Trimmable Tools

Trimmable Tools lets you apply smithing-template trims to tools, with 5400 combinations of tools, patterns, and materials. It ships as loader mods for Fabric and NeoForge plus a legacy datapack, and the server side is required alongside the optional client.

Trimmable Tools reuses the vanilla smithing template system to let players trim their tools the way armor gets trimmed, producing eighteen patterns per tool and 5,400 total combinations of tool, pattern, and trim material. It runs as separate loader builds for Fabric (1.19.4 to 26.2) and NeoForge (1.20 to 26.2), plus a plain datapack route for players who'd rather skip a loader mod entirely. The mod is optional on the client and required on the server.

Installation routes

Trimmable Tools ships three ways, a Fabric jar, a NeoForge jar, and a datapack.

  • Fabric jar, 1.19.4 to 26.2, newest build dated 2026-07-08
  • NeoForge jar, 1.20 to 26.2, newest build dated 2026-07-08
  • Datapack (stopped), 1.19.4 to 1.21.4, last built 2025-02-05

Dependencies

The newest Fabric build needs Datapatched and Fabric API; the newest NeoForge build needs only Datapatched. Older Fabric builds differ: releases covering 1.20.1 to 1.21.4 need Fabric API, while builds spanning 1.19.4 to 1.21.11 need nothing at all. Datapatched has no page here, so it has to be sourced separately.

Questions about Trimmable Tools.

4 questions

How do I install Trimmable Tools?

Pick a loader jar matching your Minecraft version, Fabric or NeoForge, drop it and any required dependencies into the mods folder, then launch with that loader's profile.

Does Trimmable Tools work on Forge?

Not anymore. Forge builds stopped in 2024 around Minecraft 1.20.6 while Fabric and NeoForge kept getting updates. Anyone on current versions needs one of those two loaders instead.

Do I need Trimmable Tools on my server?

Yes. The mod's client side is optional, but the server side is required, so a server needs it installed to support the trim system regardless of what individual clients run.

Which Minecraft versions does Trimmable Tools support?

The Fabric build spans 1.19.4 through 26.2 and the NeoForge build spans 1.20 through 26.2, both updated as of July 2026. The datapack alternative only covers 1.19.4 through 1.21.4 and hasn't built since February 2025.
