Valkyrien Skies is a physics mod for Minecraft Java on Fabric and Forge. It turns blocks into ships that move, scale, float and collide with the world, players and entities. It is required on every player's install and on the multiplayer host.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 1.20.1. The newest build requires Fabric API, optionally Mod Menu; some builds for 1.16.5 to 1.18.2 need no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.12.2 to 1.20.1. The newest build requires Kotlin for Forge; some builds for 1.12.2 to 1.18.2 need no dependencies.
What it changes
Ships are ordinary blocks given physics. Collisions work ship to ship, ship to world, ship to player and ship to entity, so a vessel behaves like part of vanilla rather than a bolted-on layer.
- Buoyancy, so a light enough ship floats on water.
- Mini ships and huge ships, with blocks that scale.
- Support for Create, so its machines can ride on a moving ship.
Installation
- 1.Install Fabric or Forge for the Minecraft release you want, following the Forge and NeoForge guide if you need help.
- 2.Add the dependencies listed for your loader below.
- 3.Put the mod file in the mods folder of your game directory, on the host as well as on each player's install.
- 4.Add a ship add-on such as Eureka, then launch with the loader's profile.
Trade-offs
The physics engine is heavy machinery bolted onto a block game, and the beta label is honest. Older builds for early releases differ in their requirements from the newest ones, so match the mod file to your exact loader and release before joining a shared world.

Questions about Valkyrien Skies.
4 questions
Is Valkyrien Skies stable enough to play?
The developers call it beta but generally stable and playable. The developers say they have not even reached 1% of the mod's full potential. Back up your world before adding it, and report problems on the project's GitHub issue tracker, where the developers collect them.
Does Valkyrien Skies work with Create?
Yes. Create is supported, so Create machines can move on ships. The developers describe it as the first of many planned integrations with popular mods. Valkyrien Skies is a library mod, so ordinary play also needs an add-on, and the developers suggest Eureka.
Do I need an add-on to use Valkyrien Skies?
Yes, for ordinary play. Valkyrien Skies is a library mod, so it needs an add-on to be used in ordinary gameplay. The developers point newcomers to Eureka as a starting add-on. Without an add-on you will notice very little change. Pick one before you set up a shared world.
Does Valkyrien Skies work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, but it is required on both sides. Every player needs the mod installed, and the multiplayer host needs it too. Both sides are listed as required. The mod is in beta, though the developers call it generally stable, and ordinary play also needs an add-on such as Eureka.
