Ponderer takes Create's standalone Ponder system and turns it into an in-game authoring tool, so players and modpack builders can build, edit and preview Ponder tutorial scenes without writing scripts first. It runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, works as both a client and a server addition, and stores every scene as data-driven JSON under config/ponderer/scripts/.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 1.21.1. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Just Enough Items (JEI).
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Just Enough Items (JEI); some builds for 1.21.1 require Ponder for KubeJS.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Just Enough Items (JEI).

Building and syncing scenes

Pressing V in-game opens the editor, where scenes support hot reload plus step types for structure overlays, text, entities, camera moves, highlighted areas and block edits. The blueprint tool saves selected areas as structures, and finished scenes export as resource-pack-format ZIP files for sharing on other platforms or inside modpacks.

  • Client and server sync through /ponderer pull and /ponderer push, with conflict handling and force or keep-local choices
  • Remote workspace browsing, history and rollback for server or modpack teams working on the same content
  • Bidirectional conversion between Ponderer JSON and PonderJS scripts
  • Two projector blocks, a Miniature Projector and a Life-Size Projector, that play a scene tied to a source item
  • Optional AI scene drafting from a text prompt through configurable Claude or ChatGPT providers

Installation and fit

Installation follows the usual pattern for the type, drop the matching loader jar into the mods folder after setting up Fabric or Forge and NeoForge, then launch with that loader's profile. Because every scene, structure and sync action lives inside Minecraft, there is no external editor or script step required, though servers running the projector or sync features need admins comfortable managing permissions and remote rollbacks.

Questions about Ponderer.

5 questions

What does Ponderer actually let you do

It moves Create's Ponder tutorial system into an in-game editor, so you can create, edit, reorder and preview tutorial scenes with hot reload instead of writing JSON or scripts outside the game first.

Do I need Just Enough Items for it to work

No. Just Enough Items is an optional companion for browsing content while building scenes, not a requirement, and the newest builds on every loader run without it.

Can I use Ponderer on a multiplayer server

Yes. It supports both client and server sides, with push and pull commands for syncing scenes and structures, plus permission controls so admins can limit who edits or uploads content.

Is Ponderer the same as PonderJS

They are related but different tools. Ponderer edits scenes visually inside the game and can import or export PonderJS-format scripts, giving you a bridge between script-based and in-game workflows rather than replacing one with the other.

Why does Forge only support one Minecraft version

Forge builds are maintained for Minecraft 1.20.1 only, with no NeoForge support planned for that range; NeoForge builds instead track 1.21.1.
