| Loaders | Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt |
| Minecraft versions | 1.17, 1.17.1, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.6, 1.21.4 |

Vesture is the Vesture datapack and mod from GenMode, an overhaul of the thin cosmetic system in Minecraft. It adds new equipment and mob drops so you can dress your character and customize a playthrough. It runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and is also published as a plain datapack. The server needs it, while players' own installs are optional.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.17 to 1.21.4. The newest build requires Fabric API and Data API; some builds for 1.21.1 require Fabric API; some builds for 1.20.5 require Data API; some builds for 1.17 to 1.20.2 require Fabric API, Gen Assets and Data API.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 1.21.4. The newest build requires Fabric API and Data API; some builds for 1.21.1 require Fabric API.
What Vesture adds
The item set is organized by equipment slot.
- Head items, including villager profession hats.
- Chest, legs, feet and wings, added from release 1.5.0.
- Hand items, added from release 1.4.0.
Not every item exists on every Minecraft release. On 1.20.4 and below, only the villager profession hats are accessible, so check the item list before choosing an older release. The creator's wiki covers the items in detail. Vesture also has extra compatibility with Cobblemon.
How to install Vesture
There are two routes. For the mod, pick the file that matches your loader and Minecraft release, then place it in the mods folder along with its dependencies. Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt builds all need Fabric API on recent releases, plus Data API. If you need a loader first, the Fabric guide and the Forge and NeoForge guide cover it.
The general mod guide covers the mods folder step.
Trade-offs
Vesture is purely cosmetic and depends on helper libraries. Its newest release, 1.6.0, landed on 2026-08-28, but the support ceiling stays at Minecraft 1.21.4. Players on older releases get a much smaller item range.
Questions about Vesture.
3 questions
Is Vesture a datapack or a mod?
Both. The same project is published as loader mods for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a plain datapack. The mod files go in the mods folder next to their dependencies, and you launch with the matching loader's profile. Either route needs the helper libraries the creator lists.
Does Vesture work on multiplayer servers?
The server needs Vesture installed, while players' own installs are optional. If you run a server, put the mod or datapack there with its dependencies.
Which items are available on older Minecraft releases?
On 1.20.4 and below, only the villager profession hats are accessible. Chest, legs, feet and wings arrived with release 1.5.0, and hand items with 1.4.0. For the full range of items, use a newer supported release.
