Stonecutter Salvage is a salvage datapack that lets the stonecutter recover ingredients from items, so spare material can be recycled for other uses. It ships as a mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a plain datapack with no loader at all. It is required on the host of a world and optional for players who join.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.15 to 1.21.10. The newest build requires Fabric API; some builds for 1.15 to 1.20.2 need no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.15 to 1.21.10. The newest build requires Fabric API.

Two ways to install

  1. 1.Mod route: pick the release for your loader and your Minecraft release, then place the file in the mods folder with Fabric API (the newest release for all four loaders requires it, even on Forge and NeoForge). Launch with that loader's profile. The mod installation guide covers the folder layout.
  2. 2.Datapack route: take the plain datapack release instead. Its newest release requires nothing else.

What it does

The idea is simple. The stonecutter recovers ingredients from items so they can be recycled for other purposes.

Trade-offs

The feature set is narrow, and development has ended. The mod route pulls in Fabric API on every loader, which is an odd cost if you only wanted the recipes. Because it must be present on the host, a multiplayer world needs it installed there, though visitors do not.

Questions about Stonecutter Salvage.

3 questions

Is Stonecutter Salvage a datapack or a mod?

Both. The same project ships a plain datapack that needs no loader, plus mod files for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. The datapack's newest release has no dependencies, while the newest mod files require Fabric API. Pick whichever route fits how your world is set up.

Is Stonecutter Salvage still updated?

No. The creator marked it discontinued and named Recipes Plus as the successor, which includes the salvage feature. The final release is dated 2025-12-20, so it still covers recent releases, but you should not expect new fixes or features.

Do players need it installed on multiplayer worlds?

It is required on the host, where the world runs. It is optional for players who join, so friends can connect without adding anything. If you play on a world someone else hosts, ask the host to install it.
