Vivecraft is a VR mod that turns Minecraft Java into a room-scale or seated virtual reality experience. It runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. It is an official continuation of the long-running Vivecraft project, rewritten with mixins instead of patches.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.2 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
A multiloader rewrite lets the same codebase target all four loaders at once, and it removed Optifine as a dependency, so compatibility with other mods should be better than in older releases.
- VR is off by default and is switched on from the main menu, so one install also serves non-VR play.
- Sodium and Iris work. Optifine still has built-in compatibility but is not required.
Installing and playing
Install the loader that matches your Minecraft version, then place the mod file in the mods folder and launch with that loader's profile. Our guides cover Fabric and Forge and NeoForge setup. For performance, pair it with Sodium, which the authors recommend now that Optifine is no longer bundled.
Trade-offs
Mod compatibility beyond Sodium and Iris is untested, and the authors say stability comes first. OpenXR support is not finished. It does not run natively on the Quest, and it does not interface with MCXR. Quest owners can use Questcraft, which is a modified version of this mod. Minecraft 1.19.0 has a single release that will get no further updates.

Questions about Vivecraft.
4 questions
Does Vivecraft work on the Meta Quest?
Not natively. The authors say native Quest support may come in the future. In the meantime, Questcraft uses a modified version of Vivecraft to make it compatible with the Oculus and Meta Quest headsets.
Does Vivecraft work with Sodium and Iris?
Yes. Sodium works and Iris works. Optifine is also compatible through built-in support, but it is no longer required. Any other mod is untested, so expect to experiment if you stack many additions on top of Vivecraft.
Can I use Vivecraft without a VR headset?
Yes. The jar includes a non-VR mode, and VR is disabled by default. You can enable VR from the main menu whenever you want, which means the same install works for headset play and regular play.
Can other players see my hands in multiplayer?
Only if they also run the mod on their client. The host also needs the mod, or the Vivecraft Spigot Extension if it runs Spigot or Paper. Without those pieces, other players will not see your VR hands.
