Zombie Awareness rewrites how zombies notice the player in Minecraft Java, layering blood scent, sound, and light-source detection on top of vanilla line of sight. It runs on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, needs CoroUtil installed alongside it on both the client and the server, and its newest builds still cap out at Minecraft 1.21.1, published in September 2024.
What zombies notice now
Getting hurt leaves a blood trail, and dropping to low health makes a player bleed out further, both of which nearby zombies can track toward the source. Mining, placing blocks, exploding TNT, opening doors and gates, firing a bow, and even the noise other zombies make all carry, and an alerted mob heads straight for it. Exposed light sources give a position away from a long distance too, so a torch left out in the open at night draws visitors. By default the same senses extend to husks, creepers, skeletons, strays, witches, and zombie villagers, and every mob on that list can be switched off individually in the config.
- Blood scent from player injuries and low-health bleeding
- Sound from mining, block placement, explosions, doors, bows, and other zombies
- Light sources spotted from far away when a zombie has line of sight
- Optional off-by-default setting for hordes that wander the surface together
Installing Zombie Awareness with CoroUtil
- 1.Install Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge for the Minecraft version you plan to use. See how to install Fabric or install Forge and NeoForge.
- 2.Download the CoroUtil build made for the same loader and Minecraft version.
- 3.Download the Zombie Awareness build made for the same loader and Minecraft version.
- 4.Place both jar files in the mods folder on the client and on the server, since Modrinth marks both sides required.
Loader and version support
Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds all reached the same ceiling on the same day, September 17, 2024: Minecraft 1.21.1. Corosus has not shipped a build past that version on any loader since, so treat 1.21.1 as the current ceiling rather than an actively climbing one. Older Forge builds reach back to Minecraft 1.12.1, which keeps long-running modpacks on earlier versions covered.
Known limitations
There is no license file granting mirrors or rehosting, so every download here points back to Modrinth, CurseForge, or GitHub. Corosus's CurseForge listing does allow using the mod inside modpacks, but redistributing the jar itself elsewhere is not covered. The mod also has not shipped a build newer than 1.21.1 since 2024, so players on newer Minecraft releases will need to wait for an update or stay on 1.21.1.

Questions about Zombie Awareness.
5 questions
What does the Zombie Awareness mod do?
It gives zombies three ways to find the player beyond vanilla line of sight: blood scent from injuries, sound from mining, doors, explosions, and other noise, and exposed light sources spotted from far away. By default the same detection also applies to husks, creepers, skeletons, strays, witches, and zombie villagers, and each mob can be turned off in the config.
Does Zombie Awareness need other mods installed?
Yes. CoroUtil is a required dependency on both the client and the server, and Zombie Awareness will not load without it. Download the CoroUtil build made for the same loader and Minecraft version as the Zombie Awareness build you install.
Which Minecraft version does Zombie Awareness support?
Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds all top out at Minecraft 1.21.1, published September 17, 2024. Older Forge releases reach back to Minecraft 1.12.1 for long-running modpacks, but no loader has shipped a build past 1.21.1 since.
Does Zombie Awareness work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, and it needs to. Modrinth marks both the client side and the server side as required, so install matching Zombie Awareness and CoroUtil jars on the server and on every connecting client, or the detection logic will not run correctly.
Is Zombie Awareness safe to download?
Download it from Modrinth, CurseForge, or the Corosauce GitHub repository rather than a third-party mirror. The project carries an all-rights-reserved license with no separate license file in the repository, so there is no permission for other sites to rehost the jar.
