Zume is a zoom mod for Minecraft Java on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. It adds a keybind that tightens your field of view while held, so distant terrain comes closer, plus separate keybinds to raise and lower the zoom level. It runs on the player's machine only, and servers do not support it.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric, Forge and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.6.4 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Embeddium.

How the zoom works

Hold the zoom key and your view narrows, which helps with reading signs and scouting landscapes from far away. Two more keybinds step the zoom level up and down. Nolij's own description strikes out "over-engineered" in favour of "simple", though the Modrinth summary keeps the original joke.

Configuration

Settings live in one file, `.minecraft/global/zume.json5`. That is the default .minecraft folder, not an individual instance folder, so every instance shares the same config. Edit it while playing and it reloads on its own. Where a mod menu exists, such as on Forge or on Fabric with Mod Menu, the config button opens the file in your system text editor.

Installation

  1. 1.Install Fabric, Forge or NeoForge for the Minecraft release you play. The mod installation guide covers the basics.
  2. 2.Put the mod file that matches your loader in the mods folder inside .minecraft.
  3. 3.Optionally add Embeddium, the only listed optional dependency.
  4. 4.Launch with the loader's profile and set the zoom keybinds.

Trade-offs

There is no dedicated Quilt support, because Nolij relies on Quilt's Fabric compatibility layer instead. The licence is strict copyleft, and Nolij states that requests to loosen it will be denied.

Questions about Zume.

3 questions

Where is the Zume config file?

The config is `.minecraft/global/zume.json5` in the default .minecraft folder, not in the folder of a single instance. You can edit it while the game runs and Zume reloads it automatically. With a mod menu available, the config button opens the file in your system text editor.

Does Zume need to be installed on a multiplayer server?

No. Zume is client-side and servers do not support it. Install it only on the machine you play on. It changes your own field of view while you hold the zoom key, so other players are not affected.

Can I use Zume on Bedrock Edition?

No. Zume is a Java mod that loads through Fabric, Forge or NeoForge, and Bedrock cannot load mods of that kind.
