Bell Claims turns land claiming into a physical, in-world mechanic instead of a command to memorize. Place a bell block, shift-right-click it, and the surrounding area becomes a protected claim that only you and the players you trust can build in, open, or otherwise affect. It runs on Paper, Spigot, and Purpur servers for Minecraft 1.20 and newer, and needs no economy plugin to get a claim started.
How claiming works
The bell you place is both the claim marker and the management console. Shift-right-clicking it opens a menu for naming the claim, trusting other players, and adjusting flags, so most day-to-day management happens through inventory GUIs rather than typed commands. Claims are not locked to squares: take the claim tool from the menu, right-click an existing corner, and drag it to a new position, or add a partition next to an existing border to grow the claim around obstacles or a neighbor's plot.
- Place and shift-right-click a bell to create a claim and open its management menu
- Resize a claim by right-clicking a corner with the claim tool and choosing a new position
- Add partitions to build irregular, non-rectangular claim shapes
- Break the bell three times within 10 seconds to permanently delete the claim
- Border visualization particles show your claim edges and neighboring claims on request
Installing Bell Claims on Paper, Spigot, or Purpur
- 1.Download the latest .jar release from the Bell Claims Modrinth page or GitHub releases
- 2.Drop the file into your server's plugins folder
- 3.Restart the server; Bell Claims protects builds immediately with no required config edits
- 4.Optional: install Vault plus a Vault-compatible permissions plugin such as LuckPerms to set per-player or per-rank claim limits
Setting claim limits with LuckPerms
Vault and LuckPerms are soft dependencies, not requirements. Without them, every player uses the plugin's default claim limits. With Vault and a metadata-capable permissions plugin installed, set limits per group or per player using LuckPerms meta commands, for example /lp group default meta set bellclaims.claim_limit 5 to cap how many bells a group can place, or bellclaims.claim_block_limit to cap the total protected area.
- bellclaims.action.bell - lets a player create and manage claims
- bellclaims.command.claim - gives a player the claim tool for resizing
- bellclaims.command.claim.trust / untrust - grants or removes another player's access to a claim
- bellclaims.command.claimoverride - moderator permission to bypass claim protection for grief cleanup
Compatibility and project status
Bell Claims is MIT licensed and its source is public on GitHub, built with Java 21 for Paper-based servers. Modrinth lists Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, and Spigot as supported platforms; there is no published Folia build, so treat Folia support as unconfirmed until the project documents it.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Bell Claims.
5 questions
How do I install Bell Claims?
Download the latest .jar from Modrinth or GitHub releases, drop it into your Paper, Spigot, or Purpur server's plugins folder, and restart. No further configuration is required for basic claim protection to start working.
Does Bell Claims need LuckPerms?
No. LuckPerms and Vault are optional soft dependencies. They are only needed if you want to set different claim limits per player or per permission group; without them, every player uses the plugin's default claim and block limits.
How do I claim land with Bell Claims?
Place a bell block where you want your claim centered, then shift-right-click it. This opens a creation menu where you name the claim, and the protected area is established immediately around the bell.
Is Bell Claims safe to use on a small SMP server?
It is open source under the MIT license with public code and releases on GitHub, but it is still in beta. The developer recommends it for testing servers and notes that live servers should back up their world before updating, since breaking changes can happen between releases.
Does Bell Claims support Folia?
Support is not confirmed. Modrinth lists Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, and Spigot as the supported platforms for Bell Claims, with no published Folia build, so do not assume Folia compatibility without checking the project's latest release notes.
