HoloMobHealth is a server plugin for Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot that draws a health display above every mob's head. The display is sent to players as packets, so the mob's real name and your death messages stay untouched. Only the server needs it, and players join as usual.
Server software and versions
- Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.8 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What the display can do
- Show health as rounded numbers, two decimals, the mob's name, or hearts through {ScaledSymbols} in the config.
- Show damage indicators, small numbers around the mob that mark health gained and lost (1.11 or above). With WorldGuard 7 you can hide them in chosen regions through flags.
- Show the bar only while a mob is attacked or taking damage.
- Blacklist mobs by type, by exact name, or by a piece of text in the name.
- Use RGB colours (1.16 or above) and custom resource pack fonts anywhere the config accepts colours.
- Write your own placeholders in JavaScript, or use PlaceholderAPI values.
Text sent to players can be translated, and entity type names follow each player's own language. Villager professions and tropical fish types are identified too.
Installation
- 1.Put the plugin file in the plugins folder, as covered in how to install plugins on a Paper or Spigot server.
- 2.Start the server.
- 3.Edit the config if you want a different look.
- 4.Restart, or run the reload command, after changing the config.
Commands and permissions
- /holomobhealth reload (or /hmh reload) reloads the plugin. Needs holomobhealth.reload, op by default.
- /holomobhealth toggle switches the display on or off for you. Needs holomobhealth.toggle, open to everyone by default. holomobhealth.toggle.others covers other players and is op by default.
- /holomobhealth update checks for updates. holomobhealth.update, op by default, also delivers update notices.
- holomobhealth.use lets a player see the display and is granted by default.
Compatibility and limits
The config can switch the display off for mobs from MyPet, Shopkeepers, Citizens (except player mob types) and MythicMobs (partly). ModelEngine support is partial and experimental. WorldGuard flags need version 7 or newer.

How do I install HoloMobHealth?
Place the plugin file in the plugins folder of your Folia, Paper, Purpur or Spigot server and start it. Edit the generated config if you want a different layout, then restart or run /hmh reload. Nothing is installed on the player's side, so everyone sees the display after joining.
Does HoloMobHealth work on Folia?
Yes. Folia is one of the server software types the plugin lists builds for, next to Paper, Purpur and Spigot. The Folia builds span 1.8 to 26.3. Only the server needs the plugin, and players join as usual, so nothing is installed on their side.
Does HoloMobHealth rename mobs or change death messages?
No. The health display is purely visual and is sent to players as packets. The mob's actual name on the server never changes, so death messages are not filled with hearts. You can also choose whether the display overrides named mobs or sits next to their names.
Can HoloMobHealth show hearts instead of numbers?
Yes. Put {ScaledSymbols} in the display format in the config and the plugin draws hearts above the mob. Other options in the config cover health rounded to a whole number, two decimal places, or the mob's name.
