SilkSpawners is a server plugin that makes spawners minable. Break one with a pickaxe carrying silk touch and the spawner drops as an item. Place it again and it spawns the mob it held when broken. It targets Paper, Spigot, Purpur, Bukkit and Folia, and only the server needs it. Players join with an ordinary client.
Server software and versions
- Bukkit, Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.8 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Installation
Installation follows the usual routine described in our plugin install guide. The newest release has no dependencies, so nothing else is needed first.
- 1.Put the plugin file in the plugins folder and restart the server.
- 2.As an admin or from the console, run /silkspawners setup.
- 3.Confirm when prompted. This is the quick path that sets the permissions for you.
Commands and permissions
Everything runs through /silkspawners. Each command has its own permission node under silkspawners.command.
- give [amount] hands a spawner to a player, and set changes a spawner already placed. Both can be limited per mob by replacing the star in the node with an entity name.
- explosion toggles spawner explosions for one player, and config views or changes settings and explosion tiers.
- entities lists the mobs you can use in permissions and commands.
- locale reloads language files, version checks for updates, and dump creates a diagnostic report for support requests.
- The break, place and change nodes control who receives destroyed spawners, who can place them and who can swap the mob with eggs. Each can also be limited to specific mobs.
Configuration
The defaults match the plugin's headline behaviour. Spawners drop with a 100 percent chance, and both a pickaxe and silk touch are required. You can lower the drop chance, demand a higher silk touch level for custom pickaxes, or let spawners drop without silk touch.
- Item name and lore use an {entity} token that is replaced with the mob name.
- Explosion tiers can be set for all mining, for mining without silk touch, or for mining with it.
- Chat messages for denied breaking, placing and changing can be switched off.
- An update check runs every 24 hours by default.
The trade-off is scope. This plugin does one job, and it relies on permissions and config for control, so it suits servers that already manage permission nodes.

Yes. Folia is one of the listed targets, alongside Paper, Spigot, Purpur and Bukkit. The newest release needs no other plugins installed first.
How do I get a spawner with SilkSpawners?
Mine a spawner with a pickaxe that has silk touch and you receive it as an item. Admins can also use the give command, which needs the silkspawners.command.give permission, optionally limited to specific mobs.
Can spawners drop without silk touch?
Yes. Setting silktouchRequired to false in the config makes spawners drop even when the pickaxe lacks silk touch. The pickaxeRequired option can also be turned off so spawners drop whatever the player is holding.
