Quests is an open-source questing plugin for Paper, Purpur and Spigot. Admins build quest chains through an in-game chat editor, and players can accept quests through an inventory GUI when configured or receive them from NPCs. The plugin runs entirely on the server, so players need nothing extra to join and take on quests.
Server software and versions
- Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.8 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Installation
- 1.Place the Quests file in the plugins folder of a Paper, Purpur or Spigot server and restart, matching the setup covered in How to Install Plugins on a Minecraft Server
- 2.Players join the server with a normal client, since nothing needs to be installed on their end
Features
- In-game chat editor for building objectives, stages and rewards without leaving the game
- NPC quest givers through Citizens or ZNPCsPlus, including talk, deliver and kill interactions
- Objectives covering item delivery, enchanting, mob and player kills, and timed location checks
- Region-based conditions that can require players to stay inside a WorldGuard zone or ride a creature
- Rewards spanning items, experience, permissions and perks from other plugins, plus optional Quest Point leaderboards
- Optional support for Dynmap and editor GUI features through separate add-ons
Configuration and trade-off
Menus, particle effects and language files are all editable, and translations are contributed through Crowdin for teams building non-English quest lines.

Which Minecraft versions does Quests support
Builds cover Minecraft 1.8 through 26.2 on Paper, Purpur and Spigot, with every build in that range requiring no extra dependencies. Match the file to the server version being run.
Do I need Citizens to use Quests
No. Citizens (or ZNPCsPlus) is optional and only adds NPC quest givers that players can talk to, deliver items to, or fight. Players can still accept quests through the inventory GUI without either NPC plugin installed.
Does Quests work with WorldGuard
Yes. WorldGuard regions can be used as conditions, so a quest step can require a player to stay inside or leave a specific zone. WorldGuard is not required unless region-based conditions are used.
Is Quests free to use
Yes. Quests is open source under the MIT license and is distributed through Modrinth and CurseForge at no cost, with the underlying code publicly available for inspection or modification.
Does Quests affect server performance
No performance figures are published for the plugin, so no specific claim can be made either way. As with any plugin, impact will scale with how many quests, NPCs and conditions are actively running at once.
