Thizzy'z Tree Feller

A highly configurable tree feller that detects connected logs and cuts down whole trees. The default setup handles vanilla trees and leaves player-made structures alone.

Thizzy'z Tree Feller is a tree feller plugin for Bukkit, Paper, Purpur and Spigot. It detects trees of any shape and size, provided the logs are connected, and cuts them down with an optional felling animation and falling logs. It runs on the server only, so players join with nothing extra to install.

Server software and versions

  • Bukkit, Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.15.2 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.

Installation

  1. 1.Put the plugin file in the plugins folder of your server.
  2. 2.Restart the server.
  3. 3.The default configuration fells vanilla trees without disturbing player-made structures.

Configuration

Trees are defined by any mix of log and leaf blocks, and custom trees can be added by auto-detecting a tree's features. Tools can carry a custom name, durability and required enchantments. Almost every option can be set per tree or per tool, and can be limited to certain worlds, times of day or gamemodes. Cooldowns, particles, sounds and explosions are available too. Tools and trees are checked in order, so the first match wins, and a later entry that overlaps an earlier one never fires.

The same system works for ores. Add an ore as the trunk with leaves disabled, then point a pickaxe at the ORE tree type.

Commands and permissions

  • /treefeller reload (treefeller.reload) reloads the configuration.
  • /treefeller on, off and toggle (treefeller.toggle) switch the feller for the player who runs them.
  • /treefeller debug [on|off] (treefeller.debug) toggles debug mode globally.
  • /treefeller config (treefeller.config) opens the in-game configuration.
  • /treefeller help (treefeller.help) lists the commands.

Compatibility

The plugin works with claim and logging tools including WorldGuard, GriefPrevention and CoreProtect. It also works with McMMO, EcoSkills, MMOCore, Towny and Drop2Inventory, among others.

The trade-off is tuning. Very large trees, or trees mixing wood and leaf types, need their own config entries. Many custom-generated trees have diagonal or persistent leaves, and those may need ignore-leaf-data, diagonal-leaves and player-leaves enabled.

Questions about Thizzy'z Tree Feller.

4 questions

How do I install Thizzy'z Tree Feller?

Place the plugin file in the plugins folder of a server running Bukkit, Paper, Purpur or Spigot, then restart the server. Players do not install anything and join with a normal client. The default configuration works straight away for vanilla trees.

Does Thizzy'z Tree Feller work with custom trees?

Yes, provided the logs are connected. The default config targets vanilla trees, so large or mixed-wood trees need their own entries. If leaves are generated badly, enabling ignore-leaf-data, diagonal-leaves and player-leaves in the config may fix detection.

Does the tree feller plugin work with WorldGuard and GriefPrevention?

Yes. Both are listed as compatible, along with CoreProtect, Towny, McMMO and several others. That lets claims and region rules keep applying while players fell trees.

What should I do if the tree feller is not cutting trees?

Use the latest release, run /treefeller debug and try to fell a tree, then check the startup logs in the console. If that does not reveal the cause, report it on GitHub with your config, startup logs and the debug output.
