TimberZ

A treecapitator plugin that drops an entire tree after one axe swing. Run it always on, toggled with a key, or tied to a custom enchantment.

TimberZ is a treecapitator plugin for Paper and Purpur. Break one log with a qualifying axe and the whole tree comes down, with a cutting animation. It runs on the server only, so players join with a normal client and install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Paper and Purpur: Minecraft 1.21.3 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it does

  • Detects trees by log and leaf mappings in blocks.yml, so tree types are editable.
  • Offers three modes. Keep it always active, let players toggle it by pressing F with an axe, or gate it behind a custom Timber enchantment.
  • Can replant the sapling and decay leaves instantly after a cut.
  • Scales axe durability by log count, with a floor so the axe is never fully spent by one tree.
  • Supports custom items through customModelData, HEX colors and MiniMessage text, with en-US, de-DE, pl-PL and ru-RU language files.

Installation and configuration

Place the plugin file in the plugins folder and restart. TimberZ then creates plugins/TimberZ with config.yml and blocks.yml. The config holds the toggle, replant, leaf decay and durability options. It also sets tree detection limits, such as a maxTreeSize of 500 logs. The detection values are already tuned, and the file itself warns against changing them without reason.

Permissions and compatibility

  • timberz.usetimber lets a player use TimberZ. It is true by default.
  • timberz.admin unlocks the admin commands. It is limited to operators by default.

With WorldGuard, a timber region flag allows or blocks cutting in an area. PlaceholderAPI gets %timberz_can_timber%, which returns true when the player can use TimberZ, taking permissions and regions into account. With AuraSkills, players earn the right Foraging XP per tree, and the config accepts an XP multiplier.

Questions about TimberZ.

4 questions

How do I install TimberZ?

Put the plugin file in the plugins folder of a Paper or Purpur server and restart it. TimberZ then generates its config.yml and blocks.yml in plugins/TimberZ. Players need nothing extra and join with a normal client.

Why does TimberZ not cut trees on my server?

The default config sets requireCustomEnchant to true, so the axe needs the Timber enchantment. Axes must also match the materials in blocks.yml, and toggling with F only works while requireAxeMaterial is on. Players also need the timberz.usetimber permission.

Does TimberZ need a permissions plugin?

No. It has two native nodes. timberz.usetimber is true by default for everyone, and timberz.admin is limited to operators by default. A permissions plugin only matters if you want to deny the first node to specific players or grant admin commands to others.

Can I stop players using TimberZ in certain areas?

Yes, with WorldGuard installed. TimberZ adds a timber flag that you set per region to allow or deny cutting there. An optional config setting also sends players a message when they try it in a region that blocks it.
