Critical PVP is a Java Edition texture pack built for competitive fights: it shrinks the fire overlay, moves the shield out of the center of the screen, swaps in shorter sword models, and shrinks totems so a totem pop no longer blocks your view. It works as a plain zip drop into the resource packs folder on any vanilla-compatible client from 1.8 through the current 1.21 releases, no mod loader required.

What Critical PVP changes

  • Low fire overlay so burning no longer fills the screen during a fight
  • Side-rendered shield instead of a full center-screen block
  • Short sword models for a clearer view of the target
  • Small totems and a totem pop highlighter that flags the moment a totem activates
  • Bow charger indicator and removal of the pumpkin-helmet screen blur

Installing Critical PVP

  1. 1.Download the pack zip from the Critical PVP page on Modrinth
  2. 2.Open Minecraft, go to Options, then Resource Packs
  3. 3.Click Open Pack Folder and drop the zip file in without extracting it
  4. 4.Select Critical PVP in the in-game list and move it to the active side
  5. 5.Reload resource packs and confirm the fire, shield, and sword changes appear

Companion mods and settings

The totem highlighter reaches its full effect with CIT Resewn installed, since custom item textures depend on it for some of the pack's conditional armor and item states. CIT Resewn is optional: the core low-fire, short-sword, and shield changes work in a plain vanilla client without any companion mod.

Known limitations

Critical PVP is a client-side visual pack only: it does not change hitboxes, combat mechanics, or server-side PvP rules, so results still depend on the server's combat plugin and version. Some conditional item textures only render correctly with CIT Resewn active, so players who skip it will see the default totem and armor variants for those specific states.

Questions about Critical PVP.

5 questions

How do I install Critical PVP?

Download the zip from the Critical PVP page on Modrinth, open Minecraft's Options > Resource Packs menu, click Open Pack Folder, and drop the zip file in unextracted. Select Critical PVP from the in-game list to activate it. No mod loader or installer is required.

Does Critical PVP need OptiFine or CIT Resewn?

No. The low-fire, short-sword, and side-shield changes work in a plain vanilla client. CIT Resewn is an optional companion that unlocks some of the pack's conditional item and armor textures, including parts of the totem highlighter.

Which Minecraft version does Critical PVP support?

The current release supports Minecraft Java from 1.6 through 1.21.x, since it only edits vanilla assets rather than depending on version-specific code. Older or newer point releases outside that range are not confirmed by the source page.

Is Critical PVP available for Bedrock Edition?

No. Critical PVP is distributed as a Java Edition resource pack zip on Modrinth. There is no listed Bedrock or Marketplace version from the same creator.

Does Critical PVP work on multiplayer PvP servers?

Yes, since it is a client-side texture pack, it applies the same way on any multiplayer server as it does in singleplayer. It changes only what you see locally and does not alter hit detection, damage, or any server-side combat rule.
