PvP Basics is a vanilla-friendly 16x PvP resource pack for Java that merges more than ten popular combat base packs into one. It clears the visual noise that gets in the way of a fight and leaves everything else looking like the default. It is a player-side pack, so it has no role on a multiplayer host.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.15 to 26.3.
What changes in a fight
- Low fire on the ground and in first person
- Low shield
- No smoke
- No particle explosions
- No eating particles
- Quieter explosion sounds
- Small totem pop and smaller totem particles
The pack already contains the effects of Low Fire and Low Shield, so you do not need those separately. It also avoids mini items and a modified crosshair, which is what keeps it close to vanilla.
How to install PvP Basics
- 1.Get the .zip from Modrinth and put it in your resourcepacks folder (Options, Resource Packs, Open Pack Folder).
- 2.Move PvP Basics to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
- 3.If you also use a Small Totem pack, place it above PvP Basics.
The general steps are covered in how to install resource packs.
Known limitations
The feature set is deliberately narrow. If fire still looks wrong, put your other packs on a small fire as well. The pack is built on work from Vanilla Tweaks and Bages, along with other authors whose MIT-licensed packs were folded in.
Questions about PvP Basics.
4 questions
How do I install PvP Basics?
Put the .zip in your resourcepacks folder, which you can open from Options, Resource Packs, Open Pack Folder. Then move PvP Basics to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. If you use a Small Totem pack, keep it above PvP Basics in the list.
Do I still need separate Low Fire or Low Shield packs?
No. PvP Basics already has Low Fire, Low Shield and Small Totem pop built in, so separate packs with similar features are unnecessary. If the fire looks wrong, switch your other packs to a small fire too.
Why does PvP Basics show an incompatibility warning?
On releases older than 1.20, the Resource Packs screen marks the pack as made for an older release. The creator knows about it and cannot change it. A pack made for another release can still load, but it shows this warning.
Is PvP Basics available for Bedrock?
No. PvP Basics is a Java Edition pack hosted on Modrinth, and Bedrock uses a different pack format. Bedrock players need to look for a separate pack made for their edition.
