Golden Age Textures is a Bedrock resource pack that rolls the look and sound of the game back to the Alpha and Beta era. CurseForge tags it as 128x. It covers blocks, mobs, menus and audio on mobile, PC and console. Java Edition cannot load it.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.21 to 26.30. The newest build requires Round Nature, optionally Night Vision Helmet , MorphX and 3D Mace HD+; builds for 1.21.50 to 1.21.130 need no dependencies; builds for 1.21 to 1.21.122 need no dependencies.

What changes visually

This is a wholesale retro swap, not a light tweak. Nearly everything players see in the early days is restored, and the creator says the pack adds no shaders and no lag.

  • Blocks: rough Alpha cobblestone, classic stone and stone bricks, old planks, gravel, netherrack, obsidian, metal blocks, bricks and sponge.
  • Ores and nature: old diamond, gold, iron, coal, lapis and redstone ores, saturated Alpha grass and leaves, old water, ice, lava and clouds.
  • Mobs: snoutless pigs and cows, oarless boats, old ghasts and the original Zombie Pigman.
  • Legacy baby mob textures for around thirty mobs, from the baby zombie to the tadpole.
  • Sounds: old doors, damage, explosions and the XP level-up chime.
  • Interface: the classic logo, the dirt menu background and the Beta item tooltip.

Subpacks and extras

Two subpacks ship inside the pack. Default is the standard Golden Age look. Old Textures switches on extra early-era visuals for a stricter classic feel. A combined option, oarless_old_planks, pairs the old planks with the oarless boat style.

Questions about Golden Age Textures.

4 questions

Is Golden Age Textures available for Java Edition?

No. It is a Bedrock Edition pack distributed as an .mcpack file, and Java Edition uses a different resource pack format. Players on Java need a separate pack built for it.

Does Golden Age Textures work with shaders?

The creator describes it as pure nostalgia with no shaders and no lag. It is a texture and sound pack with its own look, so there is no shader to install alongside it.

What is the difference between the Default and Old Textures subpacks?

Default is the recommended setup with the standard Golden Age textures. Old Textures turns on extra early-era textures and visuals on top of that, for a more fully classic look.

Which platforms does Golden Age Textures support?

The creator lists mobile, PC and console on Bedrock, and describes the pack as survival friendly. It imports like any other Bedrock pack and is switched on per world.
