Gentler Weather Sounds is a Java resource pack by VesMaybeVesper that fully replaces rain and thunder audio, including lightning. The aim is simple: weather you can leave running for hours without wincing.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.18 to 26.3.
What changes in the audio
The creator found vanilla weather sounds harsh, out of place or just not enjoyable to listen to, and built this pack as the replacement. Sounds come from credited Pixabay and Freesound recordings, and any uncredited sound was designed or recorded by the creator. All of them have been edited to work together better.
- Rain replaced with calmer ambient recordings.
- Thunder and lightning replaced as well.
- Not all sounds are present in every supported release.
- Modded weather is not replaced at this time.
How to install Gentler Weather Sounds
- 1.Get the .zip from the Modrinth page.
- 2.Open Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder, and drop the .zip in.
- 3.Move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
The resource pack install guide covers the same steps in more detail. If a pack was made for another release, it can still load but shows an incompatibility warning.
Trade-offs
It is Java only, with no Bedrock port. Modrinth marks it as needed on the player's side and unsupported on the host side, so each player installs it themselves. Softer weather is a matter of taste, and anyone who likes the stock crackle will find this one tame. Pair it with a pack like C418 Songs Only if the goal is a calmer soundscape overall.

Questions about Gentler Weather Sounds.
3 questions
Is Gentler Weather Sounds available for Bedrock?
No. It is a Java resource pack. Bedrock uses a different pack format, and the Modrinth listing only covers Java releases from 1.18 up to 26.3.
Can I use Gentler Weather Sounds in a modpack?
Yes. The creator explicitly welcomes use in modpacks and on servers. Modrinth still lists the pack as client-side, so each player needs it in their own resource pack folder.
How do I get only the rain or only the thunder sounds?
The creator publishes two narrower packs. Gentler Rain Sounds replaces just the rain, and Better Lightning Sounds replaces just lightning and thunder. This pack does both in one.
