Body Camera Shader turns the Minecraft Java camera into a handheld recording device. Fisheye lens distortion, film grain, auto exposure and a heavy vignette give footage the look of a real bodycam instead of a normal first-person view. LoLip_p builds it for the Iris and OptiFine pipelines, and the July 2026 release, version 1.6.1, is a single build that covers every game version from 1.8.9 through the current 26.2.
Installing Body Camera Shader
- 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft Java version.
- 2.Download the Body Camera Shader zip file from Modrinth, do not unzip it.
- 3.Drop the zip into the shaderpacks folder inside your .minecraft directory.
- 4.Open Options, then Video Settings, then Shaders, and select Body Camera Shader from the list.
The steps are the same as any other Iris or OptiFine pack. Our shader install guide covers both loaders in more detail if this is your first shader pack.
Camera modes and effects
- Fisheye lens distortion and a vignette border, the core bodycam look.
- Auto exposure that brightens and darkens as you move between light and shadow.
- Chromatic aberration around the edge of the frame.
- A toggleable thermal imager mode that renders mobs and players as heat signatures.
- A toggleable night vision goggles mode with the grainy green look of real NVGs.
- LabPBR support for reflections and normal maps on compatible resource packs.
- An optional LUT color grading toggle, shown side by side in the gallery above.
- Interface text in English, Russian, and French.
LoLip_p recommends setting brightness to 0 and field of view to 110 to match the look shown in the shader's own screenshots and demo video.
Distant Horizons and performance
Distant Horizons support is listed directly by the creator, so the extended render distance mod keeps working instead of breaking the shader's lighting. There are no required dependencies. LoLip_p's own benchmark reports 160 FPS or higher at 2560x1440 with a 10 chunk render distance on an RX 580 (8GB) paired with a Ryzen 5 1500X, both mid-range parts by 2026 standards. Treat that as one creator-reported data point rather than a guarantee for every setup.
Which listing is the real Body Camera Shader
Modrinth is the primary source for this page, with over 1.3 million downloads there. LoLip_p also mirrors the identical build on CurseForge under their own account, so that listing is the same shader, not a separate upload. A different, unrelated project called Body Camera Shader (MakeUp Edit) exists on CurseForge from creator DureXXX, built on the MakeUp - Ultra Fast shader base rather than LoLip_p's engine. It shares the bodycam name but is a different download from a different author, so do not confuse the two. LoLip_p also sells a separate Next-Gen RTX version of this shader through Patreon; the free build covered on this page is the base version distributed on Modrinth and CurseForge.

Known limits
- Java Edition only, through the Iris or OptiFine shader loaders. There is no Bedrock version.
- Client side only. It has no effect on server behavior and nothing to install on a server.
- Licensed CC-BY-4.0, so reuse and edits are allowed as long as LoLip_p is credited.
Questions about Body Camera Shader.
5 questions
Does the Body Camera Shader work with OptiFine and Iris?
Yes. LoLip_p ships one build per release covering both loaders, and the July 2026 release, version 1.6.1, reaches Minecraft 26.2 on Iris and OptiFine alike. There is no Fabric or Forge version, since shader packs load through the shader pipeline rather than a mod loader.
Which Minecraft versions does the Body Camera Shader support?
The 1.6.1 release from July 2026 declares support from 1.8.9 all the way through 26.2, spanning both the old numbering and the year.drop scheme Mojang introduced in 2026. One build covers that entire range rather than separate downloads per version.
Is the CurseForge listing the same shader?
Yes, LoLip_p mirrors the identical Body Camera Shader on CurseForge under their own account. A separate listing called Body Camera Shader (MakeUp Edit), from creator DureXXX, is a different fork built on the MakeUp - Ultra Fast shader base, so it is not the same project despite the similar name.
Does the Body Camera Shader support Distant Horizons?
Yes. The creator lists Distant Horizons support directly on the project page, so the extended render distance mod keeps rendering far terrain correctly instead of clashing with the shader's lighting and fog. That makes it one of the few novelty-effect shaders that plays well with a long view distance setup rather than forcing you to choose one or the other.
Do I need any other mods for the Body Camera Shader to work?
No. The project lists zero required dependencies, so it installs on top of a clean Iris or OptiFine setup with nothing extra to download first. LabPBR support only activates if you separately add a compatible PBR resource pack for reflections and normal maps, and skipping that pack still leaves every other bodycam effect working normally.
