CH Motion is a motion blur shader pack for Java by thompiejompie, made for Iris and OptiFine. It adds a subtle screen-space blur when you move or turn and leaves the vanilla look almost untouched. It runs on the player's side only and is not supported for hosting.
Shader loaders and versions
- Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.0 to 26.2.
What CH Motion changes
The pack is a single post-processing effect. Movement and camera turns pick up a soft blur that gives the smooth feel of a first-person shooter, while the vanilla look stays pretty much the same. Because it is only a post-processing effect, the performance cost is very small.
- Smooth camera motion blur on movement and turning
- Vanilla-faithful look, with just a bit of blur added
- Very light on performance, listed under the low and potato tiers
- Every blur option adjustable in the shader menu
Settings
- Motion Blur turns the effect on or off.
- Motion Blur Strength sets how strong the blur is. Raise it for a cinematic look, lower it for something subtle.
- Motion Blur Samples controls smoothness. Higher values look smoother and cost a little more, so keep it near the default for balance.
- Motion Blur Noise adds a small amount of dithering to prevent visible banding in the blur.
How to install CH Motion
- 1.Install Iris (on Fabric or NeoForge) or OptiFine. The shader install guide covers both.
- 2.Place the pack's .zip file in the shaderpacks folder.
- 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs in Iris, and select CH Motion.
- 4.Open the shader options to tune strength and samples.
Questions about CH Motion.
4 questions
How do I install CH Motion?
Install Iris or OptiFine first, then put the pack's .zip file into the shaderpacks folder. Open the shader menu (Video Settings, then Shader Packs in Iris), select CH Motion, and apply it. The blur options appear in the shader settings screen afterwards.
Does CH Motion work with Iris and OptiFine?
Yes. The pack is made for both loaders, and the newest release for each requires no other mod or library. Iris runs on Fabric or NeoForge, while OptiFine works as its own mod. Both are Java-only, so Bedrock players cannot use the pack.
Is CH Motion good for low-end PCs?
It is listed under the potato and low performance tiers, and the creator describes it as a post-processing effect with a very small performance impact. Raising Motion Blur Samples adds a little cost, so keeping the default is the balanced choice.
Can I change how strong the motion blur is?
Yes. Motion Blur Strength sets the intensity, so raise it for a more noticeable cinematic look or lower it for a subtle one. You can also switch the effect off, adjust the sample count, or add dithering to reduce banding.
