I Hate Shadows is a fullbright shader pack for Minecraft Java that removes every shadow from the world. It runs on Iris and OptiFine, and only the player's own install needs it. xsoras pitches it as a lightweight pack for low-end systems.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.8 to 26.3.

What it changes

The pack does one thing. There are no dark corners and no spooky atmosphere, only bright, even light wherever you look. That puts it among the cursed and vanilla-like shaders, closer to a lighting switch than a visual overhaul.

  • No shadows at all
  • Light on frame rate, according to the creator
  • Always bright, clean visuals
  • Aimed at low-end systems

How to install I Hate Shadows

First time with shader packs? The shader install guide covers the loader setup in more detail. The short route is below.

  1. 1.Install Iris (on Fabric or NeoForge) or OptiFine.
  2. 2.Place the pack's .zip file in your shaderpacks folder.
  3. 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs in Iris, and select I Hate Shadows.

Trade-offs

Removing shadows is the whole feature. Nothing in the pack's description covers water, clouds, bloom or other effects, so expect a flat look rather than a lighting overhaul.

Questions about I Hate Shadows.

4 questions

How do I install I Hate Shadows?

Install Iris on Fabric or NeoForge, or install OptiFine. Put the pack's .zip file into the shaderpacks folder, launch Minecraft Java, then open Video Settings and Shader Packs in Iris and pick I Hate Shadows from the list.

Does I Hate Shadows work on Bedrock?

No. The pack needs Iris or OptiFine, and both are Java mods that Bedrock cannot run. It is listed for Java only, so Bedrock players need a different pack made for their own format.

Is I Hate Shadows good for low-end PCs?

The creator describes it as lightweight, FPS-friendly and suited to low-end systems, and the listing is tagged from potato to high. That is the creator's positioning, not a hardware promise, so frame rates will still vary by machine.

Does I Hate Shadows work with Iris and OptiFine?

Yes. Both loaders are listed as supported for the pack, and neither needs an extra dependency. Pick whichever loader you already use, then select the pack in its shader menu.
