KUDA Shaders is a semi-realistic, vanilla-like shader pack for Minecraft Java on Iris and OptiFine. It layers colored lighting, dynamic fog, and clean color grading without stacking on extra effects, and its Lowest preset is built for old hardware rather than bolted on as an afterthought. Titan1um maintains the current build under a BSD-3-Clause licence, and the project carries its name and concept forward from DeDelner's original KUDA Shaders.
How to install KUDA Shaders with Iris or OptiFine
- 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for the Minecraft Java version you plan to run.
- 2.Download the KUDA Shaders zip from Modrinth. Do not extract it.
- 3.Drop the zip into your .minecraft/shaderpacks folder.
- 4.Open Options, then Video Settings, then Shaders, and select KUDA Shaders from the list.
See our guide to installing Minecraft shaders for a walkthrough that covers both Iris and OptiFine setup from scratch.
Effects and quality presets
The pack ships six quality presets, from Lowest to Cinematic, switchable from the Iris shader options menu (default keybind "0") without leaving the world. Its signature look combines colored lighting, dynamic fog, water reflections, and clean color grading aimed at a balanced, semi-realistic read rather than a heavily stylized one.
Performance and hardware expectations
- Lowest and Low: built for low-end PCs and laptops.
- Medium: suitable for low-end and medium-end hardware.
- High: aimed at medium-end PCs and laptops.
- Ultra: medium-end to high-end hardware.
- Cinematic: high-end PCs only, the creator's own chart warns everything else will get bad, unstable framerates.
That spread is the point: KUDA Shaders reads as a low-end-friendly shader that also happens to scale up, not a heavy shader with a token low setting. Compare it against Potato Shaders or Shrimple Shaders if your GPU can't clear even the Lowest preset here.
Version support and known issues
The current 6.5.26 build is made for Minecraft 1.6.1 through 26.2. A separate 6.1-legacy build stops at 1.21.11 for players who would rather avoid the newer branch, which the creator still calls work in progress with expected bugs.
There is no Bedrock version and no listed Distant Horizons compatibility note from the creator, so treat Distant Horizons pairing as untested rather than confirmed.
Questions about KUDA Shaders.
5 questions
Does KUDA Shaders work with Iris and OptiFine?
Yes. KUDA Shaders is built for both loaders on Minecraft Java, with no separate Fabric or Forge mod required beyond Iris or OptiFine itself. Load it like any other shader pack from the in-game Video Settings menu.
Which Minecraft version does KUDA Shaders support?
The current build covers 1.6.1 through 26.2. A separate 6.1-legacy build stops at 1.21.11 for players who want to skip the newer branch, which the creator still labels work in progress with expected bugs.
Is KUDA Shaders good for low-end PCs?
Yes, when set to the Lowest or Low preset in the Iris shader options menu. The creator's own quality chart marks those two tiers for low-end PCs and laptops, and warns that Ultra or Cinematic will produce unstable framerates on weaker GPUs.
Why won't KUDA Shaders render on Minecraft 26.2 or later?
Those versions default to a Vulkan rendering engine that KUDA Shaders does not support yet. Switch Video Settings to prefer OpenGL instead of Vulkan, then reload the shader pack.
Who made KUDA Shaders?
Titan1um develops the current KUDA Shaders project and releases it under a BSD-3-Clause licence. The name and concept carry forward from DeDelner's original KUDA Shaders.
