Spring Shaders is a realistic shader pack for Java with a fantasy-leaning palette of soft, bright colors built around a spring theme. It runs on Iris and OptiFine and is the second major release of ZYPanDa_Jianyang's Spring series, a sequel and refactor of Spring v1. The pack began as a practice project from the Games202 real-time rendering course.
- Lighting: reflective shadow maps, PCSS soft shadows, cloud and colored glass shadows, ground truth ambient occlusion and handheld dynamic lighting.
- Atmosphere: physically based scattering, volumetric fog and clouds, 2D planar clouds, screen space godrays and distinct sunrise and sunset hues.
- Water: three wave patterns, wave parallax, refraction, screen space reflections, caustics, dispersion and underwater volumetrics.
- Materials: normal mapping, smooth and voxel parallax, PBR reflections, rain puddles and ripples.
- Post-processing: bloom, auto exposure, tone mapping, motion blur, depth of field, TAA and contrast adaptive sharpening.
Night, rain, the End and the Nether each get their own effects, foliage sways, and the settings menu is fully in English.
Shader loaders and versions
- Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.18 to 26.2.
Performance and settings
The pack states no performance tier, and the effect list is long, so expect to trim options such as volumetric clouds, parallax or caustics on weaker hardware.
Installation
- 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for your version. The shader install guide covers both.
- 2.Place the pack's .zip in the shaderpacks folder.
- 3.Select it under Video Settings > Shader Packs. If it fails to load, try fixing shaders that do not work.
Compatibility with mods
The pack supports Distant Horizons and offers basic, partial support for Voxy. It also handles block sets from Kaleidoscope Cookery, Farmer's Delight and Biomes O' Plenty. Java only, since Bedrock cannot run Iris or OptiFine.
Questions about Spring Shaders.
4 questions
How do I install Spring Shaders?
Install Iris or OptiFine first, then put the pack's .zip file into the shaderpacks folder. Open Video Settings, choose Shader Packs, and select Spring Shaders. Iris users will find the same menu, and path traced lighting must be switched on manually because it is off by default.
Does Spring Shaders work with Distant Horizons?
Yes. The pack lists support for Distant Horizons. Voxy support is described as basic or partial, so expect fewer polished results there. The pack also lists support for Kaleidoscope Cookery, Farmer's Delight and Biomes O' Plenty, so block sets from those mods are covered too.
Can I use Spring Shaders on Bedrock?
No. It is a Java shader pack that needs Iris or OptiFine, and neither of those runs on Bedrock. Bedrock uses a different shader format, so this pack cannot be loaded there.
Can I modify and share Spring Shaders?
Yes, within the licence. It is released under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0. You can record videos and edit the code, but you must credit ZYPanDa, avoid commercial use or paywalls, and release any adaptation under the same licence.
