Billey's Mobs is a Bedrock addon from billeyzambie that adds unique, useful pets built around survival play. It brings levelable mobs, pet equipment, advancements and two boss fights. It is Bedrock only and needs Beta APIs switched on. The addon first appeared on MCPEDL in January 2019 and now ships as a single .mcaddon file.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 26.0.02 to 26.40.

What it adds

  • Leveling from 1 to 10 for ducks, banana ducks, deinonychuses, yutyrannuses, slime wyverns, tiktaaliks, duckatrices and giraffe cats. Higher levels raise health, attack damage, speed and reach, and using leather on a mob shows its progress.
  • Pet equipment, including chef hats that let rats, netherrats and penguins cook, the rat king's crown, a rubber ducky hat and bowties that pets receive free on taming.
  • Pet teleportation. Run /preparetp (or /billey:preparetp) to bring following pets along on your next teleport within a minute, or double-sneak to call them to you.
  • A Your Pets list in the info book showing each pet's health, level and location, with teleport options. Pets obtained before update 5.2 must be loaded once to appear.
  • Sea mobs such as the anglerfish, which spawns fish when fed glowstone, the swordfish, whose parts craft a fish sword, and the mercat, which changes the weather when you use a nautilus shell on a tamed one.

Installation

  1. 1.Open the .mcaddon file with Minecraft so it imports. The general steps are in how to install add-ons on Bedrock.
  2. 2.Create or edit a world and activate the behavior pack and resource pack.
  3. 3.Turn on Beta APIs under Experiments, then load the world.
  4. 4.Read the info book you receive on first join. It covers every mob in more detail than the project page.

Trade-offs

The feature set is large and the project page itself points readers to the info book instead. Realm and dedicated-server behavior is not described, so test on a spare world before committing a main one. A Java port called Practical Pets exists for 1.20.1 Forge, but it is unfinished.

Questions about Billey's Mobs.

4 questions

How do I install Billey's Mobs on Bedrock?

Open the .mcaddon file with Minecraft so it imports, then create or edit a world and activate both the behavior pack and the resource pack. Turn on Beta APIs under Experiments before loading the world. On first join you receive an info book explaining every mob.

Does Billey's Mobs need experimental toggles?

Yes. Billey's Mobs asks you to turn on Beta APIs. Switch it on under Experiments in the world's settings, and activate both the behavior pack and the resource pack for that world before you load it. Both packs are switched on per world, so repeat the steps for each new world you want to play with the pets.

Is there a Java Edition version of Billey's Mobs?

Not directly, since add-ons are Bedrock only. A separate Java port called Practical Pets exists for 1.20.1 Forge and is listed on CurseForge. It is unfinished, though a decent amount of the content has been ported so far.

How do I teleport pets in Billey's Mobs?

Run /preparetp or /billey:preparetp, and your following pets come with you the next time you teleport within a minute. You can also double-sneak to force following pets to teleport to you, or use the Your Pets list in the info book.
