Java Combat: Sweeping Edge & Blood Effects is a Bedrock addon from racingraftaar that gives swords the sweep attack Java players know. Hit one mob and nearby enemies take a share of the damage and get knocked back. It also layers on blood particles and a health readout, which makes it a focused java combat addon rather than a full combat overhaul.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.21.124 to 26.3.

What it adds

Every sword strike scans for mobs within your sweep range. Those mobs receive a percentage of your attack damage and are pushed away from you. Range and damage grow with sword tier, so a wooden sword reaches less far than a netherite one.

  • Blood particles at the point of impact, plus critical hit particles and a sound when you attack while falling.
  • An action bar readout of mob type, current health and maximum health, shifting from green to yellow to red as the target weakens.
  • Hit streak announcements: Triple at three quick hits, Penta at five, Godlike at ten or more, each with its own sound.
  • Saved statistics for total hits, mob kills, sweep attacks, critical hits and hit to kill ratio.

A settings panel sets the sweep range from two to six blocks and the sweep damage from twenty to sixty percent of base damage. Toggles cover critical particles, kill celebration particles and whether sweeps hit other players in PvP. Settings are saved globally.

Sword tiers and controls

  • Wooden sword: damage 2, sweep 2.2 blocks, knockback 0.4.
  • Stone sword: damage 2, sweep 2.5 blocks, knockback 0.4.
  • Iron sword: damage 3, sweep 2.8 blocks, knockback 0.5.
  • Golden sword: damage 2, sweep 2.5 blocks, knockback 0.5.
  • Diamond sword: damage 4, sweep 3.2 blocks, knockback 0.6.
  • Netherite sword: damage 5, sweep 3.5 blocks, knockback 0.7.

Hold a name tag and sneak to open the settings panel. Hold a book and sneak to view your combat stats.

Installation

The file is Java_Combat_v2.3.0.mcaddon. Open it with Bedrock and it imports on its own, then switch the pack on in your world's settings. The general steps are in how to install add-ons on Bedrock, and fixing add-ons that will not load covers the usual failures.

Questions about Java Combat: Sweeping Edge & Blood Effects.

4 questions

Does Java Combat need experimental toggles?

Yes. The addon requires the Beta APIs toggle, found under the Experiments tab in World Settings. It has to be enabled before the world loads. If it is off, the sweep attacks, damage indicators and settings menus will not work.

How do I open the Java Combat settings?

Hold a name tag and sneak. That opens the settings panel, where you can change sweep range, sweep damage percentage, critical hit particles, kill celebration particles and whether sweeps affect other players. Holding a book while sneaking shows your combat stats instead.

Does the sweep attack work with every sword?

Yes. Hitting a mob with any sword triggers the sweep, from wooden to netherite. Higher tiers reach further and hit harder, with the sweep range running from 2.2 blocks for wood to 3.5 blocks for netherite.

Can I use Java Combat on Java Edition?

No. This is a Bedrock addon in .mcaddon format, and Java Edition cannot load add-ons. It recreates a Java mechanic for Bedrock players, so Java players already have sweeping attacks natively.
