The most downloaded Minecraft modpacks we list are Fabulously Optimized, a Fabric performance pack that adds no content, Zombie Invade 100 Days, a Forge zombie survival pack, and Cobblemon Modpack [Fabric], a Pokémon pack. All twelve below are Java Edition, ranked by Modrinth downloads read on 2 October 2026, with loader, newest supported Minecraft release and one limit each. Everything else we index sits in our modpack listing.
How we picked these modpacks
We chose from 44 modpack pages we list. Forty come from Modrinth and carry a download count. The other four (All the Mods 10, Create: Astral, RLCraft and SkyFactory 4) come from another source, carry no Modrinth count and are not ranked here. We sorted the forty by Modrinth downloads, read on 2 October 2026, and took the top twelve. We did not benchmark or play-test any of them. Downloads favour older projects, and a count is not a score.

Optimized and vanilla-style packs
Fabulously Optimized
Fabulously Optimized
@robotkoer · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a faster game and OptiFine-style features (shaders, connected textures, zoom) without changing how Minecraft plays. Its Modrinth page says it adds no content mods, so it suits any world or server, and Modrinth lists it as client required, server unsupported. The trade-off: it is Fabric only, and its newest file, 15.0.0-alpha.4 from 27 September 2026, is tagged alpha. The page calls it faster than rival options; that is the project's claim, not ours. Its repository carries a BSD-3-Clause licence file.
Vanilla Perfected
Vanilla Perfected
@demonjoeTV · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this if you want the base game kept intact with extras layered on. Its creator describes it as Vanilla Plus mods and packs that raise FPS, update the HUD, add mob animations and add dungeon-style structures, and says it reflects one player's own tastes rather than a broad standard. The limit is that its newest file, 1.0.3+26.2 from 24 July 2026, is tagged beta. It links no source code, and Modrinth lists the licence as MIT.
Remarkably Optimized
Remarkably Optimized
@ThatDeeJay · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a narrow performance pack. Its page says it provides shader support, zoom and connected textures, and deliberately skips the clutter other OptiFine replacement packs carry. Like Fabulously Optimized it adds no content, so it works with most worlds and servers, and Modrinth lists it as client required, server unsupported. The limit is scope: it is Fabric only, and by its own account it offers just the most essential OptiFine features. It links no source code.
Cobblemon and Pokémon packs
Cobblemon Modpack [Fabric]
Cobblemon Modpack [Fabric]
@Reisen · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a plain entry into Pokémon play: catching, battling, evolving, a Pokédex and riding, with optimization mods and quality-of-life additions on top. Its page says it connects to vanilla Cobblemon servers and ships a tutorial world, Cobbled Farms. The limits: Fabric only here (the page points to a separate NeoForge pack and says Fabric performs better), and the page itself says Cobblemon is still in development with some features unfinished. It also says the Cobblemon project runs no public server of its own.
COBBLEVERSE - Pokémon Adventure [Cobblemon]
COBBLEVERSE - Pokémon Adventure [Cobblemon]
@LUMYVERSE · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a structured Pokémon campaign. Its page lists all 1025 Pokémon, custom gyms across Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh, Mega Evolutions, raids and custom music, and says mobs and hunger are disabled by default so play resembles the original games. The limit: it is fixed to Fabric on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it carries an all-rights-reserved licence with no linked source code. Modrinth lists it as client and server required.
Cobblemon Delta
Cobblemon Delta
@ItsJustChris · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a lighter Pokémon pack that comes with a public server to join. Its page says it runs well on low-end hardware and suggests setting memory to 4 GB, and its Modrinth summary says the server included in the pack has raids, dungeons, Mega Evolution and Pokémon fishing, at the address play.cobblemondelta.com. Modrinth lists the server side as optional. The limit: it links no source code and carries an all-rights-reserved licence.
Adventure, horror and survival packs
Zombie Invade 100 Days
Zombie Invade 100 Days
@FlameFire · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for zombie-siege survival. Its page says it remakes the Zombie Apocalypse pack on newer Minecraft, restoring features such as downed-player rescue, dismemberment effects and dynamic trees, and Modrinth tags it challenging and combat. The limits: it is Forge only, and its page notes the only community is Chinese, with the project's issue link pointing to MC百科. It needs client and server alike, and Modrinth lists it as all rights reserved.
Better MC [FABRIC] - BMC2
Better MC [FABRIC] - BMC2
@Luna Pixel Studios · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a Vanilla+ adventure with a lot of added content. Its page lists over 100 quests, overhauled world generation, new bosses, hundreds of new dungeons and structures, and 280+ mods, with shader support. The limit: it covers only Minecraft 1.20.1 on Fabric, and the page says it has full parity with its CurseForge listing, so the choice between sites is yours. It links no source code and is all rights reserved.
Prominence II Hasturian Era
Prominence II Hasturian Era
@ElocinDev · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a lore-driven RPG. Its page describes a story campaign, a talent tree with 10 fates and 100 stat talents, forgeable artifact weapons, voice-acted dialogue and mythic boss encounters with scaling difficulty. The limit: it targets Fabric on 1.20.1 only and needs both sides installed for multiplayer. Its newest file, 4.1.2, landed on 2 October 2026, the day we read the numbers. It links no source code and is all rights reserved.
Cave Horror Project 1
Cave Horror Project 1
@JustErikSK · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for a horror-themed quest campaign. Its page lists over 200 quests across chapters, horror mods such as The Anomaly and Cave Dweller, and Simple Voice Chat with walkie-talkies for multiplayer. Modrinth tags it challenging and combat. The limit: it is Forge only, on 1.20.1, so it does not share a loader with most other picks here. It links no source code, and the licence on Modrinth is all rights reserved.
SkyBlock Enhanced
SkyBlock Enhanced
@Kd_Gaming1 · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this only if you play Hypixel SkyBlock. Its page describes over 60 mods covering performance, dungeons and Bazaar tools, plus a setup wizard with performance profiles and six resolution presets for HUD layout. The limit is that narrow purpose: Modrinth lists it as client required and server unsupported, so it is for joining that network rather than hosting your own world. Its repository holds no licence file, though Modrinth labels it MIT.
Aged
Aged
@xR4YM0ND · Modpack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this for realistic medieval survival. Its page lists hydration, nutrition, body temperature, seasons, skills and jobs, and more than six boss fights. The limits: its page says it has been made for singleplayer since v3.0.0 and only works on servers through a server file, and its last update was 1 December 2024, the oldest date among these twelve. Its repository carries an MIT licence file.
What download counts do not tell you
A Modrinth count says how often a file was fetched there, not how good the modpack is. Older projects have had longer to collect numbers, which is why a pack first published in 2022 can sit above one published in 2025. Four modpacks we list carry no Modrinth count, so they stay unranked. Two of the twelve here, Zombie Invade 100 Days and Aged, have not been updated recently, so check the last-update column before you commit.
How to choose between them
Decide on loader and Minecraft release first, since a modpack cannot be moved to another loader. Forge picks here are Zombie Invade 100 Days and Cave Horror Project 1; the rest are Fabric, and Fabric vs Forge vs NeoForge explains the split. Then check side: Fabulously Optimized, Remarkably Optimized and SkyBlock Enhanced are client-only, while the content-heavy packs need the same files on a server. Installing any of them is a launcher import, covered in how to install a modpack.
