The right PvP texture pack depends on what blocks your view: fire, a raised shield, long swords or a cluttered crosshair. Every pack below is Java only and loads on your own machine, so none of them runs on Bedrock. Pick a narrow pack for one fix, or an all-in-one pack and accept less control over what changes.
What makes a resource pack good for PvP
The packs here fall into three habits: single-purpose fixes, combat kits built for one style, and all-in-one bundles.
- Narrow packs change one thing, so they are easy to stack and easy to remove.
- Kit packs bundle several tweaks for a playstyle, such as crystal PvP.
- All-in-one packs cover fire, shield, swords and totems at once, but you take the whole set or nothing.
Order matters when you combine them. Java loads the bottom-most pack in the Selected list first, and each pack above it replaces or merges with what is already loaded. Put the pack whose change you care about most highest.
Low fire packs
Two packs lower the fire you see in first person, and they do it in different ways.
Low On Fire by Haikis shrinks the flames so they cover only a small fraction of the screen, leaves fire on the ground unchanged and needs no OptiFine. It has 16x textures and covers releases 1.6.1 to 26.3, the widest range of the two.
Low Fire by Oculie lowers first-person fire by 6 pixels, which is 37.5% lower than vanilla, and keeps the default block fire texture. It only reaches back to 1.20 (up to 26.3). Choose it if you are on a recent release and want a measured, documented change.
The same Oculie makes Low Shield, which lowers the held shield by 2.75 units and the blocking pose by 3 units. It covers 1.20 to 26.3 and pairs naturally with either fire pack.
Short swords and clearer weapons
PvP Swords by achrp does one job: shorter, smaller sword textures so the blade stops crowding your view. It is a 16x, vanilla-like pack for releases 1.6.1 to 26.2, shipped as `shorterswords.zip`. The trade-off is scope. It changes swords and nothing else, so you still need separate fixes for fire and shields.
Crosshair packs
PvP Crosshair by Discorde brings back a classic crosshair. It is 16x, needs nothing else and lists builds for 1.0 to 26.3. Place it above any other pack that also changes the crosshair, or that pack will win.
For state feedback rather than crosshair changes, the all-in-one pack below adds a bow charger that shows when you can shoot and a totem highlighter for your inventory. None of the packs we list is described as adding hit markers or damage indicators.
Crystal PvP and all-in-one packs
CPVP Essentials (Crystal PvP) by agent-drl3x2015 targets crystal PvP. Its listed changes are small totems and totem pop, small food, no ender pearl sound effects, no crystal explosion visual effects and a lowered shield. It covers 1.16 to 26.2, with its newest file numbered 25.2. Note that it removes sounds and effects, which some players will not want.
Critical PVP by JikZ109 bundles the most in a 16x pack:
- Bow Charger, so you see immediately when you can shoot.
- Low Fire and a low side shield.
- Short swords and small totems, in the off-hand and on totem pop.
- Totem Highlighter for your inventory and no pumpkin blur.
It covers 1.6 to 1.21.10 only, so it stops short of the newest releases. It also has a small following (9 followers), so expect less community feedback than the fire packs get.
Spunky PVP Texture Pack by spunkyinsaan takes a different route: 64x, animated, with clear particles. It is described as optimized for low-end PCs, and it covers 1.15 to 26.3. Its last update was in January 2025, and it has only three files listed.
FPS cost and the trade-offs
None of these pages publish frame-rate measurements, so treat any speed claim as the author's own. What the listings do show is texture size: five of the packs here are 16x, and Spunky is 64x with animations. A higher resolution and animation are the obvious places a pack could cost you frames on weaker hardware, whatever the description promises.
- Narrow packs are easy to remove if something looks wrong, but you may need four or five to cover fire, shield, swords and crosshair.
- All-in-one packs cut the pack list down, but you cannot keep one feature and drop another.
- Release ranges differ. Low Fire and Low Shield start at 1.20, Critical PVP stops at 1.21.10, and the older-range packs start at 1.6.1.
- None of the packs here links source code.
How to install a PvP pack
- 1.Open Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder and drop the `.zip` into the `resourcepacks` folder. You can also drag the file onto the Select Resource Packs screen, which places it there for you.
- 2.Move the pack from Available to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
- 3.Reorder the Selected list so the pack whose change matters most sits highest.
Frequently asked questions
Do these PvP texture packs work on Bedrock?
No. Every pack in this roundup is Java only, and Bedrock uses a different pack format. Bedrock packs arrive as `.mcpack` or `.mcaddon` files and are switched on per world, which is a separate process. Do not put these Java `.zip` files into a Bedrock setup and expect them to load.
What is the difference between Low Fire and Low On Fire?
Low On Fire shrinks flames to a small part of the screen and covers 1.6.1 to 26.3. Low Fire lowers first-person fire by 6 pixels, 37.5% lower than vanilla, and covers 1.20 to 26.3. Both leave fire on the ground alone. Choose by release range and by how much of the flame you want gone.
Can I use several PvP packs at once?
Yes. Resource packs stack, and the bottom-most pack loads first while each pack above it replaces or merges its assets. Put PvP Crosshair above any other pack that changes the crosshair. When two packs change the same texture, the higher one wins.
Will PvP texture packs improve my FPS?
The listings give no measured figures, so there is no verified answer. Spunky PVP Texture Pack is described as optimized for low-end PCs, but it is 64x and animated. Most of the others are 16x. If frames drop after adding a pack, remove it and compare.
Does a pack for another release still load?
It can still load, but it shows an incompatibility warning. Check the range listed for the pack first. Critical PVP stops at 1.21.10, so on a newer release expect the warning. Low Fire and Low Shield start at 1.20, so older releases will trigger it.
