Villager loot drops including emeralds and a bell scattered on the ground after a villager is defeated

Villager & Wandering Trader Drops is a vanilla Minecraft data pack that changes what happens when a villager or wandering trader dies. Normally both mobs drop nothing at all, so killing one is a wasted trip. This data pack adds emeralds and a chance at extra loot instead, giving Java Edition players 1.21 through 1.21.11 an actual reason to fight them rather than only trade with them.

What changes in-game

Both mobs keep their normal trading behavior while alive. The new loot only applies to the death drop, so the change is easy to add to an existing world without breaking villager trading, professions, or workstations.

Villager drop table

  • 1 to 5 emeralds, guaranteed
  • Emerald block, 20% chance
  • Book, 50% chance
  • Bottle o' Enchanting, 20% chance
  • Bell, 10% chance

Wandering trader drop table

  • 2 to 10 emeralds, guaranteed
  • 1 to 2 emerald blocks, guaranteed
  • 2 leads, guaranteed
  • 1 nautilus shell, guaranteed

How to install Villager & Wandering Trader Drops

  1. 1.Download the data pack zip from the Modrinth page linked below.
  2. 2.Open your world save folder and drop the zip into the datapacks folder, or into world/datapacks on a dedicated server.
  3. 3.Load the world, or run /reload if it is already open, to activate the pack.
  4. 4.Run /datapack list enabled to confirm it loaded.

Multiplayer and compatibility notes

The pack only edits the villager and wandering trader loot tables, so it runs entirely server-side and works the same way on a dedicated server, a Realm, or a single-player world once it is added to the world's datapacks folder. It needs no client-side install, no Fabric or Forge dependency for the plain data pack file, and no other data packs to function.

  • No dependencies: the data pack works standalone.
  • Loot table conflicts: another data pack that also overrides villager or wandering trader loot tables can override or be overridden by this one, depending on load order.
  • Version matching: pick the file version that matches your Minecraft release on the Modrinth versions page, since file names are not always updated for every point release.

Players who want a broader set of small vanilla-plus tweaks alongside this one can pair it with a general QoL and balance data pack for the same world.

Questions about Villager & Wandering Trader Drops.

5 questions

How do I install Villager & Wandering Trader Drops?

Download the data pack zip from Modrinth and place it in your world's datapacks folder, or in world/datapacks on a server. Load the world or run /reload to apply it, and the new loot appears the next time a villager or wandering trader is defeated.

Does Villager & Wandering Trader Drops work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. It only changes loot tables on the villager and wandering trader entities, so a server operator can add the zip to the world's datapacks folder the same way as any other vanilla data pack, with no client mod required for players.

What does Villager & Wandering Trader Drops actually change?

Villagers and wandering traders normally drop nothing when killed. This data pack adds a guaranteed emerald drop plus a chance at extras such as books, bells, enchanted bottles, leads, and a nautilus shell, so killing one is no longer a wasted trip.

Which Minecraft version does Villager & Wandering Trader Drops support?

The current release covers Java Edition 1.21 through 1.21.11. Match the download to your game version on the Modrinth versions page, since a mismatched file name can fail to trigger the new loot even though the pack loads.

Is Villager & Wandering Trader Drops safe to add to an existing world?

It only edits loot tables, so it adds no new blocks, entities, or scheduled functions and will not affect villager trading or professions. Download it from the linked Modrinth listing only, since the creator has kept it under an all-rights-reserved license with no approved mirrors.
