True Ending overhauls Minecraft Java Edition's final boss fight, giving the Ender Dragon a multi-phase attack pattern that escalates in difficulty as its health drops. Built by limesplatus, it adds a shockwave dive, chained fireball barrages, and a beam attack in the final phase, wrapped in dragon-themed particle effects, without changing anything else about vanilla progression.

What changes in the fight

The dragon's attack pattern now scales with its remaining health instead of staying static for the whole fight. Early phases add a shockwave dive that knocks players back and damages the crystal-charged arena, while later phases chain together rapid fireball volleys. The final phase channels a sustained beam attack and surrounds the dragon in dense purple particle effects, turning the End islands into a visibly harder arena as the fight goes on.

Installing True Ending

True Ending ships in two forms. The data pack form is a .zip that works on any vanilla Java world or server without a mod loader. The mod form is available for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt, and loads automatically without needing to add it to each world's data pack folder by hand.

  1. 1.Download the data pack .zip or the mod .jar from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Singleplayer data pack: create or edit a world, open Data Packs from More Options, drop the .zip in, and enable it before the world loads.
  3. 3.Server data pack: copy the .zip into your world's datapacks folder, then restart the server or run /reload.
  4. 4.Mod install: place the .jar into your mods folder alongside Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt instead of installing the data pack manually.
  5. 5.Enter the End with an undefeated Ender Dragon to see the new attack pattern.

Multiplayer and resource pack requirements

Because the fight logic runs entirely from data pack functions, any vanilla-compatible Java server can run True Ending by dropping the .zip into the world's datapacks folder. No plugin, client-side install, or companion resource pack is required. Every particle effect uses Minecraft's built-in particle types, so players connecting to a server running True Ending see the new attacks without installing anything themselves.

Questions about this entry.

  • How do I install True Ending?

Download either the data pack .zip or the mod .jar from Modrinth. For the data pack, drop the .zip into your world's datapacks folder (or the Data Packs screen when creating a world) and reload. For the mod version, place the .jar in your mods folder with Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt installed.

  • Does True Ending need a resource pack?

No. Every attack and particle effect uses Minecraft's built-in particle types and vanilla assets, so there is no companion resource pack to install alongside it.

  • Does True Ending work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. The dragon fight logic runs from data pack functions, so any vanilla-compatible Java server can run it by adding the pack to the world's datapacks folder. Connecting players see the new attacks automatically, with nothing to install on their end.

  • Which Minecraft version does True Ending support?

The current build covers 1.21.2 through 1.21.11, and earlier releases of the pack go back to 1.19.4. Check the version list on the Modrinth page for the exact build that matches your world's Minecraft version.

  • Is True Ending safe to use?

True Ending is distributed on Modrinth under a custom license linked from the creator's GitHub wiki. It only changes Ender Dragon attack behavior through data pack functions and does not modify unrelated world data, chunks, or player files.
