Better Optimization is a Fabric modpack for Java that goes after FPS and MSPT. It is tuned for very large texture packs, from 512x up to 2048x and beyond, and it runs on the player's own machine only. LingLing1301 publishes it on Modrinth, and the goal is maximum performance rather than extra content.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.21.11 to 26.3.

What the pack is built for

The aim is a smoother frame rate and shorter tick times while a high-resolution pack is loaded. The creator sets strict rules for what ships.

  • Only open source mods are included.
  • Updates are released only once every mod in the pack is stable.
  • Releases are audited on a maximum-performance PC with 512x+ packs, including an RTX PRO 6000 workstation on 5/10/2026.
  • Wayland and Linux are supported natively.
  • A mod ID list is included, so you can update mods manually at any time.

How to install it

Modrinth packs install through a launcher. Follow how to install a modpack to import the .mrpack in the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher, which fetches the listed mods and the loader. If you want to understand the loader first, the Fabric guide covers it.

Test numbers and trade-offs

The published test ran on an ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025) with an Ultra 9 275HX, an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU and 32GB of memory, under Fedora 44. It used a random default-seed world, default config and 32 chunks, and logged 224/245 FPS and 1.2/50 MSPT.

Those are top-tier numbers from top-tier hardware. No figures exist for modest machines, and the pack links no source repository or issue tracker, so treat it as a workstation-class choice. Players who want combat tuning can compare Better PvP.

Questions about Better Optimization.

3 questions

How do I install Better Optimization?

Import the pack into the Modrinth App, Prism Launcher or another launcher that reads .mrpack files. The launcher downloads the listed mods and the Fabric loader for you, so no separate loader setup is needed.

Can I use Better Optimization on a dedicated host?

No. Better Optimization is for the player's own machine only, and dedicated hosting is unsupported. Do not install it on a machine that runs a world for others. Modrinth still tags it for multiplayer, but the pack itself is a local performance bundle for the person playing.

What hardware was Better Optimization tested on?

The main test rig was an ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025) with an Ultra 9 275HX, an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU and 32GB of memory, running Fedora 44 with default config and 32 chunks. A workstation with an RTX PRO 6000 was also tested. Results on weaker hardware are not published.
