The Akashic Tome mod is a utility mod from Vazkii (with Uraneptus) that collapses every mod's documentation book into one item. It runs on NeoForge today, with older Forge releases that have since stopped, and it is tagged for both singleplayer and multiplayer. In a large modpack, one slot replaces a stack of guides.
Loaders and versions
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.15.2 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after August 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies; builds for 1.15.2 to 1.18.2 require AutoRegLib.
What the tome does
The only item the mod adds is the Akashic Tome, crafted from a Book and a Bookshelf. To store another mod's documentation book, combine the two in a crafting table. You can add as many as you like, duplicates included.
The tome does not emulate the stored book or wrap it in a container. Transforming it hands you the real item from the other mod, so that book behaves exactly as it normally would. A little NBT data rides along so the tome can turn back.
Using it in play
- Right click the tome and pick a stored book from the menu to transform it.
- Sneak and right click a modded block to switch to that mod's book, if the tome holds one. With several books from one mod, you get the first one added.
- Punch the air to turn the book back into the tome.
- To remove a stored book, transform into it, then sneak and press your drop key.
Configuration
The config file decides which items can be attached. By default only items whose names match a whitelist (such as book, tome or lexicon) qualify, and you can add specific items by hand. A blacklist excludes whole mods, and an option to allow every item is off by default.
An alias list redirects one mod to another. If a mod's block should open another mod's book, map them, for example "rftoolsdim=rftools".
Installation
Put the mod file in your mods folder and launch with a matching NeoForge or Forge profile. If you have not set one up, follow the Forge and NeoForge guide. The mod does nothing on its own beyond the tome, so it earns its place only in packs with several documentation books. The Forge line is no longer updated, so new play belongs on NeoForge.
Questions about Akashic Tome.
3 questions
How do I add a book to the Akashic Tome?
Place the Akashic Tome and the other mod's documentation book together in a crafting table. The book is absorbed into the tome, and you can repeat this with as many books as you want, including duplicates. The tome keeps the real item, not a copy of it.
How do I get a book back out of the Akashic Tome?
Right click the tome and choose the book you want to transform into. Then sneak and press your drop key to remove that stored book. Punching the air without dropping simply turns the book back into the tome.
Is Akashic Tome still updated for Forge?
Forge releases have stopped, with the last one dated August 2024. NeoForge continues to receive updates, and its newest release is from March 2026. Players on current packs should use the NeoForge files.
