Better Tridents is a Java mod from Fuzs that fixes the weak spots of the trident, adding a crafting recipe, a smarter loyalty enchantment and Bedrock-style impaling. It runs on Fabric and NeoForge, and it must be installed on both the player's side and the multiplayer host. Forge builds exist but have stopped.

- Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API, Puzzles Lib and Forge Config API Port.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.4 to 26.3. The newest build requires Puzzles Lib.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.4, builds stopped after January 2024. The newest build requires Puzzles Lib and Forge Config API Port, optionally Forge Config Screens; builds for 1.18.2 to 1.20.1 require Puzzles Lib.
What changes in play
- Each of the three elder guardians in an ocean monument drops a trident fragment. Combine the three with a few prismarine shards to craft a new trident.
- Prismarine shards repair a trident in an anvil when its durability runs low.
- A trident always returns to the slot it was thrown from.
- With loyalty, a trident thrown into the void comes back instead of being deleted.
- A loyalty trident also pulls in mob loot and experience points as it flies back to you.
- Impaling works as on Bedrock Edition. Any mob touching water or rain takes extra damage, not just selected aquatic mobs.
Installing it
Pick the file for your loader and game release, then drop it into the mods folder together with the libraries listed above. If you are new to loaders, the guide to installing Java mods covers the basics.
Configuration
Settings can be changed in-game through a mod menu screen. On Fabric that requires Mod Menu by Prospector. Manual editing is possible in the config folder, where files are named after the mod ID with a client, common or server suffix.
