Biome Replacer

A server-side utility that deletes or swaps unwanted biomes using one-line rules in a properties file. Built for datapack worldgen such as Terralith, with limited support for TerraBlender and Blueprint biomes.

Biome Replacer is a biome replacer mod for Minecraft Java that removes or swaps biomes through a plain properties file. It runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, and Quilt builds exist but have stopped. It belongs on the server; players joining a multiplayer world do not install it, though a singleplayer world needs it locally.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.19.4 to 1.21.4 require Fabric API.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.4. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Quilt: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 1.21.4, builds stopped after November 2024. The newest build requires Fabric API.

What it changes

The mod targets worldgen sets that offer no convenient settings of their own, such as the Terralith datapack. You name a biome and give it a replacement, or send it to `null` to drop it. Biome tags work too, so one rule can cover a whole family of biomes.

Mod integration is limited. Biome libraries are supported for TerraBlender and Blueprint only, so Biolith biomes cannot be changed. The mod should still sit fine beside most world generation mods. It runs once at world start and does not slow generation.

Setting up your rules

  1. 1.Install the mod following the Java mod guide, then run the game or server once to generate the config.
  2. 2.Open `biome_replacer.properties` in the `config` folder.
  3. 3.Add one rule per line in the form `old_biome > new_biome`, for example `minecraft:dark_forest > minecraft:cherry_grove`.
  4. 4.Load the world. Typos in biome IDs show up as warnings in chat.

To remove Terralith's skylands in one line, write `#terralith:skylands > null`. To limit rules to one dimension, put a header such as `[minecraft:overworld]` above them. In singleplayer you can leave and re-enter the world after editing, with no game restart.

Questions about Biome Replacer.

4 questions

Do players need Biome Replacer installed to join a server?

No. The mod works on the server side, so players joining a multiplayer world do not install it. Client installation only matters in singleplayer, because the local world acts as its own server and needs the mod loaded to apply your rules.

Can Biome Replacer turn oceans into land?

No. It swaps or removes biomes but cannot change terrain shape. That means you cannot convert oceans to land or create ocean-only worlds. It only changes which biome is assigned to a spot, so the underlying landscape keeps its form.

How do I remove a biome with Biome Replacer?

Run the game once so the mod generates biome_replacer.properties in the config folder. Add a rule that sends the biome to null, such as terralith:skylands_autumn > null, or use a tag like #terralith:skylands > null. Then load the world and check chat for warnings.

Does Biome Replacer work with other biome mods?

It supports biomes from TerraBlender and Blueprint, but not Biolith. It should not break other world generation mods and is expected to work alongside most of them. Biomes from unsupported libraries simply cannot be targeted by your rules.
