Structure Essentials is a server-side mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge that tidies up structure generation and lookup. It speeds up locating, lets you stretch or shrink structure distances, and keeps structures from overlapping. Made by someaddon, it also ships inspection commands and debug logging for anyone running several worldgen mods together.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.3. The newest build requires Cupboard; some builds for 1.19.3 to 1.19.4 need no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.19.2 to 26.3. The newest build requires Cupboard.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.1. The newest build requires Cupboard; some builds for 1.19.3 to 1.19.4 need no dependencies.
Faster searches and safer worldgen
Locating is the headline feature. A faster structure lookup cuts the lag spikes that come from treasure maps and the locate command, and a configurable timeout stops a long search from crashing the server. Map search distance, global structure search distance and locate command distance can each be adjusted.
On the placement side, one spacing and separation setting adjusts every structure's distance requirement at once, and a minimum distance to other structures prevents overlap. Automatic biome compatibility detects fitting biomes so structures and biomes from different mods work together, with a strictness control for how similar a biome must be. The mod also corrects bad spacing values that crash in some mods, lets structures be removed or renamed without crashing, and prevents legacy random source errors.
Commands and settings
- /structureessentials getStructuresNearby lists structures near you.
- /structureessentials getBiomeTags shows the tags attached to a biome.
- /structureessentials getBiomesForTag shows the biomes linked to a tag.
- /structureessentials getSimilarForBiome suggests similar biomes and tags.
- /structureessentials showGenerationTimes ranks structures and features by worldgen time, which helps when hunting a slow generator.
The config exposes structureSearchTimeout, useFastStructureLookup, spacingSeparationModifier, autoBiomeCompat and disableLegacyRandomCrashes, plus optional debug logging for placement problems. The author reports no known incompatibilities with other mods.
Installing it
- 1.Install the loader that matches your world, using our guide for Fabric or Forge and NeoForge.
- 2.Download the file for your Minecraft release from CurseForge, along with any dependency listed on its file page.
- 3.Put every file in the mods folder and start the server.
Most features act on the server, including the internal server in singleplayer, so players who join need nothing installed. The general steps are in our guide to installing mods on Java.
Questions about Structure Essentials.
4 questions
Do players need Structure Essentials installed to join a server?
No. Most features run on the server, including the internal server used in singleplayer, so it does not have to be installed on both sides. Install it on the server and joining players can connect without it.
Does Structure Essentials work with other worldgen mods?
The author lists no known incompatibilities and says it should work with any mod. It also includes automatic biome compatibility, which adjusts structure spawning to fit biomes from other mods, and a spacing fix for values that crash some mods.
How does Structure Essentials make structure searches faster?
It uses a faster structure lookup that reduces lag spikes when treasure maps or the locate command search. A configurable timeout also ends long searches before they can crash the server. Both can be switched or tuned in the config.
Which loaders does Structure Essentials support?
It has builds for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. The newest builds need the Cupboard library, so install it alongside the mod. Older builds differ, so check the dependency list on the CurseForge file you choose.
